Firmware is the only thing changes from downgrading/updating right?
That was the main point of my question - I just wanted to make sure that newer FWs don't write files to NAND in a way that older FWs couldn't read them properly

I guess the other factors would be if you installed stuff onto your SD card however that shouldn't matter so long as you keep track of your SD cards.
I use 1 SD and install all stuff on it

Im wondering why there are so many , and i really mean SOOOO MANY eShop games not released by any scene team. Is there any specific reason ? I mean we can do it already , for example "yooka layle"e or "sonic mania" , but what about "Celeste" or hundreds of other games ? alot of gems in the indies :|

Firmware updates install a bunch of different things depending on the specific firmware from patches to the OS to new masterkeys. The latter is important as newer games, updates, and DLC are encrypted with more recent revisions of the masterkeys hence why certain things only work on certain firmwares. I don't know of a way to retain those keys in your system while downgrading so just understand that certain titles won't work on lower firmwares. An easy way to check is by seeing when that title came out and comparing it to what was the latest firmware at that time.

These games are being ripped using fake tickets meaning they are not true dumps of eShop titles. We also lack a way to properly dump eShop titles from our consoles so groups like VENOM and BBB dump games the same way the rest of us usually acquire them outside of Google; using a CDNSP downloader tool.

I've seen some conflicting wording, so I'd just like to double check something. Does Tinfoil...

A. allow for the minimum firmware necessary to boot a game?

B. completely bypass the firmware check all together? meaning you could play any game on any firmware.

Reason no. 1 is CDNSP and reason no. 2 is that these NSPs are actually available to download

The latest builds of Tinfoil reduce NSPs of games and updates (probably DLC as well) to work on their minimum firmware. This was an issue because some games had their minimum firmware requirement set to the latest firmware when they were added to the eShop because the assumption is made you must be on that firmware to get the game legally. However, Tinfoil does not reduce NSPs to the lowest possible firmware currently. This is theoretically possibly by unpacking the NSP and then repacking it using the lowest masterkey revision (which is 0) but no one has succeeded/tried doing this to the best of my knowledge.

So first time i launched a payload for RCM, i had to install some drivers for the Switch.

Do i need to do that again with a "virgin" Switch and SX Pro? Or the Pro do that itself?

Drivers are installed into the computer that sends the payload so it can properly detect the APX device (RCM Switch) so they must be reinstalled on any new computers that will send payloads, not the consoles nor the SX Pro dongle.

As long as you install the driver to the PC once, then you shouldn't have to install it again. That is, unless you uninstall the driver manually.

is Tinfoil the only thing that lets you play higher firmware games on a lower firmware? Or does SX OS allow this as well?
Rommenu (the title installer in SX OS) currently doesn't support that feature. But they might just steal it like they've done with almost every other feature So far, only Tinfoil has the ability to bypass the firmware requirement of certain NSP files.

Thanks for the quick reply. Can I run Tinfoil from the sx os (in the homebrew menu) or is Tinfoil only working with ReiNX (or "hekate with sig patches" but i am not really sure what that is)

Afaik it only works from the actual Homebrew Menu... I may be wrong. But otherwise, I do believe it requires sig patches that may or not be available from SXOS.

You can try it, the worst thing that can happen is getting an installed NSP you can't use; just to delete it.

I have a Switch with 4.1.0 (never online) and SX OS Pro.

Can please somebody explain like I‘m five why I should not simply update to 5.1.0 to get full game compatibility and exFAT?

What exactly is the benefit of this deja vu warmboot (or any other exploit) that may will come somewhere in the future? No jig but still payload/dongle? Doesn‘t seem to make up the fact that you can‘t play games that require 5.x.x.

Sorry if this sounds dumb but I really don‘t understand it.

Before anybody mentiones it: No, I definitely don‘t want to do the tutorials without burning fuses and offline exFAT - it looks to complicated to me with the thousand steps, I don‘t want to care about AutoRCM, and I don‘t have a USB C cable and I don‘t want to brick anything.

Make sure you are adding them properly by making a subfolder under switch then placing the .NRO in that subfolder. Other than that, it could be an issue with your SD card such as closing in on the end of its life or being a fake.

I don’t think it’s either of those things, and I did put them all in a subfolder. Still doesn’t show :(

Your dongle will work fine on both 5.1.0 and 4.1.0. The warmboot just lets you get into CFW without using a jig or dongle. Since you have SX pro, I really don’t think you’d care about that, and therefore there is no benefit to not updating, so update if you want.

@Draxzelex

Hi first thanks for your great answer, much appreciated. I should have stated it better, i will really only get the xecuter jig, not sx pro :)
so i will go for softmods completely and i really do not care about getting banned as i would like to completely do everything offline if possible, without ever connecting to internet. would that be even possible ?
and i really would like to know more about the softmods that are possible without jig or usb cable as i am on 3.0.2, or am i over the point with that version ? because in the guide you linked it states softmod for 1.0.0-3.0.0 only
And thats what i am most afraid of when going for softmods: is auto rcm integrated in every "cfw" out there right now ?
or does that have to be activated explicitly ?
so the only benefit of auto rcm really is that i don´t need to send payloads every time i boot up console from deep shutdown right ?
i am perfectly fine with doing the exploit on every boot as long as it goes smoothly and taking only a minute or so.
so the softmods without jig/usb calbe is even more interesting now :)

and in the thread of rajnx there was some talk about brick but from last comments i see that was bogus and it should be safe ?
oh yes and when i am talking "safe" or minimum risk i actually mean from brick preventing.

so from your answer i would think go this route, please correct me where maybe wrong order :)
backup nand
backup own console specific keys etc
gather rest of the keys
block updates
find appropriate game for 3.0.2 as nsp backup for doing exfat update ? or should i go directly for 4.1.0 ?
doing exfat update on 3.02 with that game (nsp?)
from here just start with raj or rei ?

EDIT (Added Questions):

can i follow this guide with my 3.0.2 ? https://switch.hacks.guide/homebrew-launcher-(installer)
and if i understood right i just need to run the "second" exploit every time i reboot from deep shutdown ?
or can i ignore this and just boot into rcm with my jig, send payload via smartphone and i am good to go ?

and most important, after i started rei or raj, i can remove cable from switch and put it in the the dock to play on tv while still keeping benefits of cfw ?

sorry for asking so much dumb questions :D

Hello, I'm planning to buy Switch with old hw revision to make it easier to hack in the future.
Please ELI5, is it possible to backup my game cart and install it to other Switch and Play together with Local Mutiplayer feature without a chance of getting banned?
