Judging by TX's use of them, I think they're more like ISO files. Basically like images of the carts, that the CFW will trick the device into thinking its an actual cart inserted inside. Then you'll press button combinations to switch between different cart images so that you can choose what you want to play. Like Sky3DS+.

Yeah that could be for the XCI (TX said they are using those) and thats why i wanted to know ablut NSP too. Would they be like cias? Just install and play? No CFW needed after? No way to tell if they are not legal because there are no private headers?

I have a 7 years old PC with USB 2.0 ports and a recent android phone, how can I manage to launch the payload?
To send payloads using a Windows PC, you would use TegraSmash. An Android phone can download an app called NXLoader to do the same.

2. IF I get the joycon connection issue, can I still send just the joycons back to Nintendo, or do I have to send the whole console back?
Thanks.
The Joy-Con issue depends which pins are damaged. If its the ones on the Joy-Con, then yes you will need a new Joy-Con. However, you can get the same problem from damaging the equivalent pins on the Switch which would involve either replacing the Joy-Con rail or sending it to Nintendo.

.NSP are the Switch equivalent on 3DS .CIAs. We just don't have a released title manager to install them. Hell, we don't even have a released backup loader yet. But something tells me that even installing .NSPs will carry some sort of risk.

This is the instant CFW: https://gbatemp.net/threads/switchblade-another-instant-cfw-payload.504677/ The only difference between this and the regular build of Hekate is that you won't boot into a menu to choose what you want to boot into or do. You will instead be immediately be sent into the 'CFW'. For making your own splash screen...
Under tools in the source code there is a python script called "convert_image.py" if you supply it with a PNG that is 1280x720 it will create an image.txt file rename that to splash.bin and you are good to go. Just be careful what you do with this file as it's content is directly copied to the screen's framebuffer. If you delete the file it will also just skip the whole splash screen.
Also, @Rune I've been trying to find out how to load Pegaswitch with the super update nag blocked, but this is all I've been able to find so far. I know its not much, but I'm still looking.
It highly depends on the console. Most exploits use a vulnerability in the web browser (webkit) as webpages obviously have a lot of potential in loading custom code. Wii U as an example loaded a custom video containing code that would take advantage of a bug in the video playing module in the browser, to gain access to parts of the memory usually restricted. In this case there is no need for DNS outside of blocking updates, since you can navigate to the URL containing the exploit by yourself. In this case we also had all the files we need (payload) on a SD card.

Now if we have a working browser, but no SD card slot or any other way of loading the payloads we could use a DNS server hosting such files. Pegaswitch uses this, it hosts the files on a DNS server running on your computer.
Sorry, but your answer wasn't clear. Can I use TegraSmash with the hardware I already have?
Yes, you may need to install some drivers. You can find complete instructions here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/tegrarcmsmash-a-fusee-launcher-for-windows.502334/

Is the 56kohm resistor absolutely necessary? I'm willing to the necessary cable, but I can't find one with the resistor on the description (at least not in local web stores).
So from what I've gathered, the jury's out on this one. The reason the 56k ohm resister is recommended as this was the reason why Switches were getting bricked due to third party docks. It always is better to be safe than sorry, but if you have trouble finding one, there are other users who are using cables without the resistor and so far no other Switches have been bricked (apart from briccmii and Hekate).

Hi, newbie here. My eventual goal is to get a switch that can play backups. I've been holding off on buying a switch till something releases just so I know which firmware to keep an eye out but I've come across a great deal on a barely used switch from an acquaintance. It's on the latest firmware but he's selling for just $150. What would you guys suggest? I know Xecutor is releasing something that has game switching but I don't understand enough about the scene.

All firmwares are hackable. This statement only holds true if you buy a current Nintendo Switch revision. They are planning on releasing a new hardware revision that will fix the exploit both TX and the rest of the community has been using to implement their hacks. We don't know when they will release it so it is highly advised to buy a Switch now.

As for playing backups, TX's modchip will allow you to play backups from the get-go on June 15th when it is available. However, this involves paying for something that the community can do for free. The problem is we don't have a public method of loading backups. What I can say is that there is a project in the works in the form of a Custom FirmWare (or CFW for short) that can have backup loading implemented into it. The release date for this CFW is sometime around June 15th which is the same time the modchip will become available for purchase. Someone other than the creators will simply have to do it. There's no telling when someone will do that, but it will happen. So its up to you about what you want to do. You can choose to not wait to play backups and buy TX's product or you can wait until the community finds a way to implement free backup loading.
Is there a backup loader yet?
Nope

How does Team Xecuter’s thingy work then? Doesn’t that launch backups?

It does, however SX isn't released yet. Therefore, there is currently no backup loader.
Not to mention that once it does come out, since they are not providing us with the source code for their product, it'll involve more work on reverse engineering a way to launch backups without their modchip.

I think their dongle is just a way to launch fuseé geleé. The real stuff is on their software, which is locked by username/pass and the console serial.

@SylverReZ, atleast wiimmfii went fine although people only use it for Mario kart Wii

At least if they ban you for cheating, get another Wii. They're cheap as chips.

    not really

It got shutdown because somebody "accidentally" leaked the database for the amount of people using the beta.

RiiShop is the laziest way of downloading Wii games. Did somebody not think of this through?
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
although i ended up accidentally changing my nand with no way of going back bc i didn't know you needed a gamecube controller to restore it (i have a wii minus/1.1, which doesn't have gamecube controller support)
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@BakerMan, I think you're talking about the recovery mode that the SaveMii used, and also was to restore softbricked systems.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
If your NAND was hardbricked, then just buy another Wii. Or go with the dirty NAND flasher method.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
and if i find the sd card i have my NAND backed up on, i can not only restore the NAND if i solder the right part in, but i can also put my NAND on dolphin, then i can play dolphin online, like PMEX Remix or MKWii Riibalanced
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    Brb
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@BakerMan, Oh yeah, that was a thing too. Dolphin does support Wiimmfi.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
yeah you just need to put your NAND backup with wiimmfi on it
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
ngl i feel like if a bunch of my friends have wiis and know how to get wiimmfi and back up their NAND, then we could do a PMEX Remix tournament
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
maybe even add UMVC3/DBFZ and make it a biathlon/triathlon
