Hello. I don't know where to begin. I followed directions as carefully as possible as not to screw this up but I somehow did.

I was on a very old dashboard on my jagged 360. I needed to update it so I could use an external hard drive larger than 32gb. I followed a guide that explained how to get it to the 2.0.17511.0 dashboard. (Here is a link to the guide if it helps)

I followed all the steps and it's still jtagged but I can no longer boot into FSD using the USB thumb drive that I've always used. Even worse, I can no longer use Kinect. Every time I plug it in it says I need to update my system to use it.

Does anyone know what I did wrong and how I can fix it? I really wanted to show my 3 year old some Kinect Disney stuff that I ripped to the hard drive a long time ago. Even with the original discs I can't show them because of Xbox insisting I need to update to use Kinect.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Boot XeXMenu and boot the latest Dashlaunch.
Set it up again and save the settings to the HDD and the NAND.
Then download the 17511 update from MS's website and rename it to $$ystemupdate.
Let it update and you'll be able to use Kinect and avatars again.

Use this tut instead.
It's a little outdated but does the job.

Thank you so much for the reply.

I am in dashlaunch right now. What do you mean by "set it up again and save the settings to HDD and NAND"?

I don't know what "set it up again" means. Sorry if this is a dumb thing for me to be stuck on.

I went into XeXMenu, browsed for the folder dashlaunch_v3.18.1, chose the installer folder, then the default.xex file in there. But what did you want me to do next?

And where should I update the XBox from with Microsoft's update? From the stock MS Dashboard? There's no risk of me bricking or un-jatagging?

Uhm.
You could load up me preconfigured settings file if you'd like.
Everything is configured to ensure no network pinging to Live, XBLA and XBLI works n what not.
Just load it from the USB drive and save it to the NAND and HDD or FSD USB or w/e

Stick a USB drive with $$ystemupdate into the 360 and boot the MS dash.
Update from there.

You need the Kinect/Avatar update. Download the dash update from MS to a usb and plug it in. Then when you boot up, it should say “security needs to be updated” or something like that. NOT “A SYSTEM UPDATE IS REQUIRED!!” If it says that you’ll semi-brick your console if you run it. System/Security thing is ok though. Let it run and it’ll work fine.

Thanks for the replies. The issue is that I am using a FAT32 USB drive just as the guide says but I am not getting prompted to update. Any ideas why? The folder name is definitely correct and at the root of the drive. Maybe it is not triggering an update because I am already on this update?

Dashlaunch auto launches FSD.
As well as apply patches and various other hacks that keeps JTAG/RGH boxes off live (if you care about your keyvault in case if you ever want to unhack it) and load up Indie games n what not.

Check from what path FSD gets loaded in me preconfigured file.
Edit if needed.

I'm an idiot. I guess I have not used dashlaunch since I first jtagged years ago. Thanks so much for clearing it up.

I finally got my system to see the update. I had to unplug and re-plug my USB drive about 10 times until it finally worked for some reason.

Anyway thank you again for all your help.

@The Real Jdbye, I thought about that and I have blank DVD's and Blurays but honestly after like 90 songs I just listen to it a couple of hundred times toss it out and burn something else or have like 2-3 CD's. Florida here the heat in the car tends to ruin the CD's after like a few months even commercial pressed ones don't last too long.
