(For those who have noticed, sorry for all the questions I post on here.) I plan on using the DSiWareHax to get cfw onto my stock N3DS. I will be using an O2D with cfw to get it onto my system. I looked at the guide on 3ds.guide and mostly understand the steps, but there is one thing that I am a little hesitant about: "remember you cannot transfer back from a New 3DS or New 2DS to an Old 3DS or Old 2DS." My N3DS is the one I have and want to end up with cfw. Using an O2DS with cfw to do the system transfer will work because I'm going from N3DS to O2DS and then back to N3DS? It wouldn't work if it was O2DS to N3DS and back? I just really don't want to mess this up. And is there anything else I need to keep in mind so I don't screw up everything?

You cannot go o2DS -> n3DS -> o2DS or N3DS -> o2DS -> n3DS.

These are the only ways to do a system transfer:
n3DS/n2DS -> n3DS/n2DS
o3DS/o2DS -> n3DS/n2DS
o3DS/o2DS -> o3DS/o2DS

As long as you are using the old 2ds system as the source console you can transfer to the n3ds. Just not back to the old 2ds system

So if I get my hands on an o2ds with cfw, I can transfer it onto my n3ds and then have cfw on that? I don't care about overwriting my NNID, just as long as I keep my content that is on my n3ds right now (mostly just games and saves. But also access to my game keys in case I want to re-download a game from the eShop). So I guess the main concern I have is can I system transfer, from an o2ds to my n3ds, and keep all the content on my n3ds (excluding the NNID) and have the cfw? Sorry if I'm asking the same question over and over again. I really just want this to be clear.

I believe the transfer forces you to format the target system if you have a NNID on it.
What you can do is back up your save data by running JKSM from a *hax entrypoint. Then do the CFW process, and when you're all done, you can format the system again and log in with the previous NNID, redownload all your legit content etc. and reimport your save data, so you won't lose anything important except time.

That's exactly what I was looking for! So formatting the system again after the transfer won't get rid of my access to cfw on the n3ds?

No, formatting just deletes any user data, it doesn't actually do anything to the firmware.
This was a great help! Thank you so much for the clarification. I will attempt this and hope all goes well. I'll post back how it went (whenever it happens. Soon, hopefully).

Just to note, you'll lose your activity log, but you can maybe back that up with Chthulu.
Thanks for the tip. I don't really care about that stuff, so I can do without it.

One more quick question for you. So I looked up the JKSM, but it's cfw. When I system transfer from the o2ds to my n3ds, I will still have all my content AND access to cfw at that point? That way I can backup everything and then format? If not, I do have hbl with oot3dhax, and I have a save manager program (that I used to get oot3dhax onto the cartridge). Will that work the same?

There is a .3dsx version of JKSM that can be loaded with HBL.
