Hardware Will it be hard to get a switch if you don't get one on launch?

Maybe it will be gone during April till they restock properly in mid-late spring
There's always a period where it's sold out, Nintendo like to feel their console is selling so they hardly stock
I don't like that idea but it's whatever, makes their systems look more popular

I think it'll be possible to walk in and get one on release day at some retail locations (Best Buy, Gamestop, Walmart). Just a matter of showing up at the midnight launch or early in the morning before they open. Beyond that I'd say a month or a month and a half at most before they'll be restocked on shelves.

There's a Best Buy about five miles from where I live, they're doing the midnight launch and told me to call the day where they get the shipment (probably Wednesday), from there, to call them and find out what no. in line I need to be. The problem is IDK how early to get there, if people aren't ahead of me, being able to guarantee, etc. It's stressing me out, I admit, as I don't want to wait an eternity, you know?


I'm tempted to just get one on eBay (from a user with a high rating, i.e. 100%).

Edit: Only prob is 400 dollars is way too much for a Switch, that, and who knows whether or not I'd get gypped on eBay, ugh.

I am no expert on eBay and their policies but I believe "the buyer is always right". So it should be possible to secure one and then cancel the order before it ships if you end up getting one locally. That could be tricky if you get one where they change to ship to address on their pre order.

Still spending $400-$450 on a Switch just seems wrong and rewarding scalpers is something I refuse to do. That's like two full games or more. Surely you can wait a month or two or three worst case? If it is Zelda that has you impatient just get the Wii U version and sell it for $30 or more when you get the Switch.

Plus if you do eBay and there is something wrong with it you are kind of stuck in the Nintendo warranty process instead of just returning it to the store.

Edit: do you live in a state near the Great Lakes and have a Meijer? They will have them and do in-store que lines.

My dad has bought from eBay without any real issues, the things to watch out for are scams and users with negative reviews; I've seen many users with a lot of reviews and a perfect 100% rating, so they're more trustworthy, usually. The problem again is the price being so freaking high, and reinforces how much I bloody despise scalpers and scalping as a whole. The thing is, I'm not the most patient, I just want to have it just for the sake of not having it in the back of my mind, getting it over with as I made a huge mistake cancelling the preorder. I'll go to Best Buy on launch at midnight.

Best Buy is the only store I can think of where my chances are high. BTW, I see a listing on eBay for 350 or so, not sure if it'll stay.

They don't ship the Switch outside of the UK, believe me, I checked. Unless I'm wrong, they're being stingy about preordering outside of the UK. What a sodding joke.

If Amazon states they have stock then they will dispatch it as soon the official release date permits. Or later.. non-Prime members.

Or just cancel your preorder and blame it on the supplier.

I did have this happen on me. I had a backorder of SMT:Apocalypse and it was cancelled but with backorders that's a possibility.

I don't have a 3DS, but I do have a decent LG smartphone, I could watch some YouTube or something to pass the time 400 is still a bit steep, and with a game, that's 460, yeah, no thanks lol. I'll figure something out.

They were also coming off the Gamecube that wasn't nearly as popular. It's really impossible to gauge demand until a product is released...I remember when Furbys were sold out for months.

Im sure when summer comes , getting a Switch wont be hard since summer breaaaak

And considering Splatoon 2 launches on Summer , they that's a +1 to find easily a Switch on summer.

As for the other months *Late March - May* Getting a Switch on late march and early april could be hard , however with the release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxes , surely at May you will find more Switchs

I don't want to camp overnight in this cold weather, it's hellacious and cold at night this time of year, I'd rather wait inside to be honest.

If they will let you inside then by all means wait inside, but I have never heard BB doing allowing that. Is your BB having a midnight release or is it a morning release?

I get it if you are not used to being outside in the cold weather much. I am a Scout leader so am kind of used to it and have wool socks, long underwear and such. But we also usually have a fire, and BB would probably get a little cranky about that in the parking lot.
