I'm thinking it's highly unlikely because they wouldn't want to split functionality between the mobile experience and the docked experience. And WiiU already proved that people aren't interested in having a touchscreen in front of them while playing primarily on a larger screen. You engage people by making games engaging, not by splitting focus. Even Nintendo I think is unlikely to repeat the exact same mistake twice in a row.

Call it a "home console" all you want but you do know that Switch will be competing with Android gaming tablets, right??? The Switch offers nothing special to the average person aside from Nintendo games. No touchscreen, no web browser, noting truly interactive. Of course this is based on what we know. That being said, why would I give up my tablet that might do more than the Switch just to play Switch on the go? Obviously Nintendo is trying to cater to the smart device crowd but they are doing it all wrong! Touch or die because I can guarantee you that in this world of convergence, if the Switch doesn't come with touch, apps and a good browser, the smart device crowd that Nintendo is trying so hard to grab will basically say, "fuck it" and this WILL be the final nail in the coffin.

According to the person who's been leaking everything correctly, it does in fact have a touchscreen, but all games are required to be playable while docked.

She also said that the Joy-Cons have IR pointing and motion controls, pretty much replacing the Wii-Remotes.

In short, it does have Nintendo's standard gimmicks, but is not forced upon the player like before. Much, much better.

I love this, myself. I love motion and touch controls, but lots of people don't, yet they objectively open many more gameplay possibilities, so getting rid of them would be bad. They're merging handheld and console gaming, as well as touch, motion ans standard controls, so yay o/

If true, I can't wait to play Splatoon using "proper" motion controls.

But on the other hand the DS/3DS proved people loved having a touchscreen in front of them while playing primarily on a larger screen. The Wii U failed for other reasons.

I'd expect it will have a web browser, no reason it shouldn't. And no, it's not competing with crappy mobile/smartphone games. It will be able to play full console games like Skyrim and Dark Souls, so who needs touch-interactive cow clickers?

It was a nice extra, but DS/3DS success can hardly be attributed to their touchscreens, as many games can be played on them without using the touchscreen at all. The WiiU failed pretty much for that same reason, the touchscreen added nothing to the experience that competitors' consoles didn't have.

I guess using the Joy-Cons for motion should be OK. They don't look as comfortable as a Wii Remote and Nunchuck but I'll try before I judge. Hopefully the triggers are analog. Maybe, just maybe I'll be happy of we can get more games with both a motion and a standard control option.

Not every mobile game is crappy. The Walking Dead, Asphalt 8 and Modern Combat 5 all say hello.

So why then should Nintendo bother competing with touchscreen devices when you already have a smartphone capable of playing these games in your pocket everywhere you go? People don't buy consoles for games they can play already. I'd definitely skip Switch if its software marketplace was mostly filled with F2P games that have in-app purchases.

OTOH, if gamestream is included on Switch, it will be a huge difference-maker. Rumor was that NX would be able to interact with other consoles and PC in some way, and I'm guessing this is it.

So the rumor is that the IR is on the bottom side of the right Joy-Con? WTF?! Why not just make a little hump over the R button??? Its kinda asinine to turn the Joy-Con upside down, losing two shoulder buttons -_-'

This can do games (new and old) from handhelds, consoles and mobile. No need to limit it for the sake of it.

Probably didn't want it to over extend the handheld, but they still have time for changes. Probably why they didn't show everything off.

Sadly this will be one of those ignored things. Especially since I get that in in the minority of motion lovers.

As many here have said, the Zelda BotW footage on the park looks really laggy. Not sure how Nintendo let that one slip up.

It's not real footage.

Digitally added.
Yeah I'm sure they haven't done enough of the porting work for Switch yet, the console isn't even out and dev kits are probably just starting to be made.

Hell, Skyrim is shown in the trailer and that's not confirmed for Switch either. Although that reinforces the theory that Switch might have gamestream.

To me, the single most important thing for the Switch is that is has a good selection of titles.

And the less motion control the better, I suppose.

Just wanted to share a picture from the trailer which shows that the gameplay video on the tablet screen was badly edited in :) I thought it was funny.

ps. I'm super hyped about the console :) Just hope it's not the Tegra x1.
