I know that, but can it be considered as "stealing"? I mean, code is out there. Of course, you are breaking the license; still, I wouldn't call that stealing.

Freedom is out there, if someone or some company take away everybody freedom and made it closed source and only the ones who pays can have freedom, would you say that it was a good thing or would you say that they stole your freedom?

Shit they "stole" is open-source. Forking is not stealing. Why should you rewrite code when you can tailor existing one to fit your needs?
Tbh gbatemp makes it up as it goes along, gateway copies a method but makes their own code "arrrghhhh kill them, theives I tell yah"

Supercard steals the whole package and rebrands it as their own work with a few tweaks and "oh well we can't complain it's opensource anyway so they are allowed to do what they like"

Never spoke about Gateway, neither here nor elsewhere. Try and compare thoughts of a single person instead of "gbatemp says, gbatemp does". I'm not gbatemp.

It's the worst analogy ever.
You (developer) chose to put code open-source, instead of keeping it closed. You (customer) choose whether to buy SC products or use free alternatives. They're not compelling you to pay in order to have something that is your right to have.

It's your (devs ans customer) right to have the source code, since it is a "fork" from a open source code protected by GNU GPLv3
Once that a open source code is protected by a GNU Licence, it's the right of the developers and the entire GNU community to have the source code from a forked project using that code in any level (using 0.1% or 99.9% of the code)

Does this work with DSTwo (not plus) as well? I have one and just trying to understand, but I don't really need it since I have CFW on sysNAND with A9LH

sorry for quoting you, yours was just an example sorry if that uspet you, i was basically saying the general attitude of gbatemp users as a whole reflect that of yours, the truth is i kinda agree to a point you cannot really expect piracy based companies to respect peoples copyrights it kinda comes with the territory, but i would have expected the same level of whinging in here as what happens in gateway threads if not more seeing as SC actually have stolen code rather than just copied the idea of a hack

I'm not sure what's so confusing about this situation. 'Stealing' might be an exaggeration depending on how you define 'theft', but it is definately a fork that violates the GPL.

If they release their sources, there isn't a problem. As long as they don't, it is a major problem. GPL violations need to be fought if the credibility of GPL is to be maintained.

They are legally bound to release the code as per GPL. Yet they did not.

Are we really expecting a flashcart company, completely based off of illegalities, to care about the GPL? If anyone wants anything done, talking about it won't fix a thing. Now can we please stop bickering about this?

No one cares that they using the code, it's that they didn't credit the original author. No one cares what projected they forked it from or that they even forked, we only care that they didn't even bother to mention that it's a fork.

My concern is that people at least understand what GPL is. Earth97 for example, who doesn;t seem to understand how open source works.

Since we have the access to the ReiNand souce code, does that make easier to us to RE the freegame.dat?

And the follow-up: what should I know to do this myself? I know C/C++ at some level, can understand ctrulib etc. Should I learn ASM to do that?
