Homebrew Retroarch freezing on menu

I just downloaded the most recent stable version of Retroarch and unzipped it into the apps folder on my SD card.

It freezes on the Retroarch menu, forcing me to shut down the Wii.

Am I doing something stupid?

Probably you had .cfg files from old retro arch versions on your
sd:/retroarch.

Delete these .cfg files and try again
