If you mean you can take an OEM Windows 7 install, upgrade to Windows 10, then use that Windows 10 key on other PCs, then no you can't do that, they're still classified as OEM and can only be installed to one PC.

I actually tried it myself with my Surface and my gaming desktop, it asked for a key while I did a clean install so I just used my Surface Pro key to see what happened. It activated for a few hours, then deactivated after.
No I mean on the same PC will it give me a key so I can reinstall if I have to.

So what you're asking is, after you upgrade from the original Windows 7 install to Windows 10, if you'll get a Windows 10 key you can use to do a clean install if you wanted? If that's the case, then yes, if you use Speccy on the Windows 10 upgrade it'll show you a different key than the Windows 7 key that came with your laptop, and this key can be used to reinstall on that laptop however many times.

Easiest way. Ghost image your C partition, upgrade to Windows 10, then ghost the image back onto your second HDD. Now you will have your old Win7 and your new Win10.

But isn't that software expensive? And I don't know how well that would work, or how to do it. That's a problem when the space on my HDD takes up more space than the available space on the 2nd HDD.

C'mon you're on a hacking site, in two clicks I can get a free ghosting software from the ether.
Look in the ether and you can find anything.
If you are using a Thinkpad or Thinkstation you can use Lenovo Rescue Recover for free, best ghosting program in the world.

See the amended text, the problem with cloning this HDD to the second one is this one takes up around 800 GB whereas there's only 600 GB left on the other, I'd have no way to clone it over. The only promising cloning software I've seen is this, http://www.backup-utility.com/free-backup-software.html but again, I have more space taken up on one drive than I have free space on the other, if that makes sense. And wouldn't having two HDDs with the same OS make it an issue?

Clearly my space problem was overlooked. One HDD takes up about 800 GB, the other HDD only has 600 GB left, I can't clone 800 GB worth of data too a 600 GB drive. Not to mention two HDD with Windows 7 system files would surely create issues.

No, because one would be Win7 the other would be Win10, once you upgrade your OS its no longer the same, even the keys change. You wanna ghost it now onto an external drive, then ghost it back on a spare partition once the Win10 upgrade is done.
You will need 2 TB of free space, 1TB to store the ghost image, and another TB to ghost the image onto.
That's aside from the your C drive.

You asked for a easy method for non geeks, that easiest method that I can think of. I personally got a few dual boots myself, one Win7 and Linux dual.

Well, then I'm shit out of luck, I only have two 1 TB HDDs at my disposal, and I wouldn't be able to clone the Windows 7 data over if I updated to 10, now would I? How was I supposed to know though? I've never cloned in my life, so sorry I don't know all aspects of computers. :(

FML.

I'm talking about cloning BEFORE the upgrade, not after.

My method is pretty easy, proceed normally, and crack the backup windows 7. At this point, you got windows 10 for free, lagally.

Ugh, now I don't even know why I made this thread. People are telling me to do this this, that I should do that.

All I want....is to have a dual OS setup.

No cloning. No ghost imaging. Just....a dual...OS set up.

Why is this hard for others to understand? I'm not upset at you, I just don't know why the hell I bothered asking.

You ghost your C today while its still win7 on any 1Tb drive, go buy one its cheap. Then after you upgrade to Win10, you re-instate the ghost image back onto your free partition, and you're done.

You're asking to dual boot OS, which is technically difficult to install to begin with yet you are upset because instructions are too hard???

Simple instructions that any 2 year old can follow. GHOST your C on a spare drive.
GHOST it back after your Win10 upgrade.

Yes, because I can totally buy a 3rd HDD with the money I don't have (been unemployed till last week and haven't gotten a check yet). Am I not being clear enough?
Okay then. Just, update to windows 10 normally, in the primary drive. then, install windows 7 in another one. Done.
Can't, no Windows 7 DVD and I tried to download an ISO from MS's site using this Windows 7 key, didn't work, it told me it was invalid despite being a legit copy.

Remove WAT will be useful then ;) not much an issue, since the main HDD will be upgraded to windows 10 already lol.

Looks like this is way above your league, just stick with your Win7 and don't upgrade at all. You don't even have your Win7 disc or license. LOL.

I have no idea what WAT is though, that's the thing, like, I don't want to lose the Windows 7 partition, or any and all functionality of programs that are in 7, I'm too comfortable.

How is this "above my league"? I know how to upgrade the OS, there's no need to be condescending. I DO have a license, do you want me to post it on here? Because I'd be more than happy to. The problem is that the Microsoft recovery site won't recognize it. How much proof do you need that this is a legit copy?

People are trying to help you but you are not listening to anyone, every single way to go about it has already been posted, choose one and do it. Ain't nobody gonna make it easier for you.
If you don't have enough space try deleting some porn, its free nowadays, no need to horde it.

Lol, you wouldn't lose anything. You basically proceed normally with your current OS, and Just install another windows 7 installation in another drive.
Remove WAT is a crack program that removes activation and key from the OS, so you don't have to use a licence, just get the os.
