Why Team Xecuter sucks

Needed to get this out of my system.

It's pretty much me arguing all the major points that have been made over and over again, with some additional things to note from yours truly.

Summary: Fuck Team Xecuter and their defenders.

I agree with everything you said about Team Xecuter.

That being said, until an open-source CFW like Atmosphere has as basic a function as signature patching, for example, TX OS is a necessary evil for a lot of people.

Sure, they steal code. But that part is still parts of the free SX OS. You still only pay a license for the backup loader as far as I know.

@linuxares - You are mistaking free as in free beer with free as in free speech.

The stolen code is sold as free beer, while it should be available as free speech in accordance with the license that Atmosphere and the unnamed crypto library are licensed under, which they still are in violation of.

It doesn't dissuade any of the arguments I have made here.

@DeoNaught - I prefer to bring up references to my arguments, as this means that they're much harder to refute based on "you cant back them up" instead of me having to go look for them after the fact (which takes time and for as long as I couldn't source the claims, I would be in potential doubt of being suspicious and make false arguments). Giving the sources to what I want to say both helps me weed out any minor mistakes I've made (my brain only tends to remember the general line of thought of some things and can skimp on the minor details) and makes me more credible as well.

I have the sources on handy while writing the article and they're out there in the public anyway, so in my eyes, there is little harm in adding them.

It is little harm in adding them, and imo, it adds quality too the paper, and makes it way easier to believe.

tl;dr: Rehashed points, time and time again with strong personal bias with blatant disregard to past experiences. In other words? Temp ramblings.

Don't take this as me defending their practice. Far from it. However, they've given us something that works substantially well for the intended purpose, and are keeping pace with updates. You can argue "hobby vs profession" all day, but the paid product is still the superior one in most regards. You just can't refute that. Even when bringing in moral standings, which is ironic considering we all know you're not a saint. Tired of this bullshit drama. It's not your work, it's not your problem. Use it or don't. Crying about it is like pissing in the wind at this point. C'est la vie.

Ping Long doesn't give a flying fuck about your "honor code" if it's open source, it's free for the takings to him. At least Ping Long's piracy solution works, unlike vaporware Bog Loader and Atmosphere.

Ping Long will have proper CFW while Atmosphere argues and cries over piracy. So, keep circle jerking over Atmosphere. Ping Long and his sweat shop workers are the heroes we need, but certainly not the ones we deserve!

@Ev1l0rd, the Internet's a fucked up place. There are some arguments you'll never win because of paid trolls spreading discord with coordinate, pin-point precision. They muddy the public general's perception of what is indeed a bad product into something acceptable. Keep that in mind and don't waste your energy fighting losing battles against those miscreants.

@TurdPooCharger - Aside from the fact that it felt great on my own to write an article like this and tackle basically all issues I have with people defending Team Xecuter in one go, it should still matter to make sure that a good amount of valid information is available. Going "it's pissing in the wind" is possibly true, but making sure that it is as abundantly clear as possible why Team Xecuter is godawful makes sure that their practices are considered just as godawful to people who aren't as deeply invested in these things.

@Memoir - Fine, I'll bite

with strong personal bias

Excuse me? Me giving a fuck about Free software is personal bias now. Okay, sure, whatever. Or are you referring to my open notice that I support ReSwitched? The former is trying to dismiss me based on something I care about, the latter is a flat out personal attack. Attack my argument, not me, the person making it.

blatant disregard to past experiences

Mind adding here what "past experiences" I'm missing? I've kept track of GateWay/Team Xecuters behavior over these past two weeks (iirc its been two weeks by now?) in general, asked around, read the feeds and in short have a pretty good understanding of what happened.

Please back up what experiences I'm missing, as in my eyes I think I got everything this time, aside from the minor section of nwerts emulator getting bricked, which I didn't include as it's reaffirming an older point.

You can argue "hobby vs profession" all day

I don't argue hobby vs profession in my article at all, at any point. I'm not sure where this comes from.

but the paid product is still the superior one in most regards. You just can't refute that.

"""superior""". It still contains the bricking function (it just isn't called anymore). I'm sorry, but any project that contains a bricking function isn't superior by default, ignoring any cases for license issues, but dismissing those is trying to say "well, let's just dismiss the main issue people have with this shit and then we can agree that it's not that bad?". Yeah, no. Shit doesn't work like that.

Even when bringing in moral standings, which is ironic considering we all know you're not a saint.

A. Nice personal attack. Attack the argument, not the person making it. I've never claimed to be a saint when it comes to piracy, but this argument feelks like a personal insult to me. Saying that I can't make an argument here because I'm 'not a saint' myself is trying to dismiss the argument based on the person making it. I can absolutely make my argument here, and dismissing it simply because of my involvment in some things is not just stupid, it's plain offensive to me.
B. Read the actual blog, it's both legally and morally wrong. My blog covers both.

It's not your work, it's not your problem. Use it or don't. Crying about it is like pissing in the wind at this point. C'est la vie.

The problem with "not my work, not my problem" is that the mentality that is said here (either by going "well it barely matters, they won't change") is that you indirectly wind up validating their practice. If nobody complains about their behavior, then they won't feel pressured to do shit about it. You don't need to be as active as I personally am here with writing an entire essay about it and keeping up the pressure, but not going "why the fuck would you care" (which I cover in my quoted example from the post where I note that this kills scenes) would at least go a long way to make sure their practices are invalidated, and by trying to muddy the waters by going "just... don't care too much about it" is in my eyes almost as insulting to developers as being one of the outright defenders of Team Xecuter.

And again, it's my problem, as one of the most common arguments (which you just made with some slightly different phrasing, the "I don't care Team Xecuter did it first" rebuttal, which you can swap out for "has the best quality at the moment" for that part holds the same) is a mentality that kills a homebrew scene. This kind of behavior is one of the reasons the jailbreak scene is dead in the water (aside from developers leaving because they got hired by tech companies, the few that were left mostly left then due to the way users treat the developers of the jailbreak scene).

I do not want the Switch scene to end up like the jailbreak scene.

@Ev1l0rd , what I meant is you (and others like you) brought to light about Xecutor's questionable product, that most normal folks will appreciate this and will keep their distance away from that company. The rest now lies in Switch members educating one another by word of mouth. I like to think there are more of us who are reasonable enough to agree not to support this team. Your mission now lies in keeping us informed with whatever new updates arising about them that we should be concerned about.

The ones who you can't reach are either long time die-hard fans of Xecutor's previous works or those that are too impatient that can only think of the short term (or the now moment). These are the ones you shouldn't waste your time and energy on because there's no sense talking to them if they're already already dead set / made up their mind. No point stressing any further over them as you did your due diligence in doing what you believed was best for us, so thank you for putting your neck out there like that. Don't wear yourself out! :)

However, at some point, you got to wonder the ones who are left arguing with you in bad faith through personal attacks, why? While you and I don't have proof to call them out, I'd like to think the logical possibility is that they're shills or spokespersons in defense of SX by using outright offense measures against yours and fellow devs' characters / reputations. That's the only way they can justify their product, and it's classic divide and conquer 101 tactics. Carefully pick and choose your battles where your expended resources will have the maximum effect.

I agree with you. The Dongle is great. I’m going to be buying it soon. But the OS... that is just...bad.
I’ll probably sell my OS liscence code on here.

Why waste energy over it? Atleast they made a useful product out of it, despite the ethics behind their business.

“Useful”
All it does is let you pirate games and lets you run the Homebrew launcher without running simple exploits every time.
And brick your system.
