So I'm big into music, and I love watching live shows. When my local radio station announced that Slash was gonna be in town, and the tickets were gonna be $10 bucks, I had to go. Slash, as you may know, is no longer in Guns N' Roses, but is now playing with Myles Kennedy and his band, the Conspirators. I expected the opening band to suck, like most opening bands do. There were two actually. One was this hippie band, kinda Pink Floyd-y, I liked the fact they looked genuinely excited to be playing music. Not really my style.
When Slash and the Conspirators finally took the stage it was pretty standard, stuff from Slash's new album, lots of old GN'R hits, and a couple Velvet Revolver songs. All-in-all, pretty good aside from the douchebag crowd.
But the real stars of the night were, in my opinion, a band called Foxy Shazam. Holy fucking shit. Saying they have an energetic live show is putting it extremely lightly. The singer, who looked like Freddie Mercury, was doing somersaults and other crazy shit all over the stage. They had a trumpet player. The keyboardist stood on his keyboard, played with his feet, played with his head, and at one point he took his keyboard crowdsurfing with him, still plugged in and still playing. The singer asked the crowd for a cigarette, and they started throwing cigarette after cigarette to him. He put about six of them in his mouth and asked for a lighter, got one, lit them, and proceeded to turn them around and eat them. And they sound kind of like The Darkness, but better in my opinion. These guys were incredible, but not too well known.
