Trapped with only Nintendo home consoles (and a mediocre PC) for the past two generations, I ended up breaking the chain this Black Friday and got a PS4. Gone are the days of shitty online, or having to add friend codes or not having an account system to prevent me from losing all my digital games.
The thing is, much of the features you guys have gotten used to in the last generation, I'm just being introduced to. So here are some impressions from a person who's missed a lot of the non-Nintendo parts of the last generation.
Graphics:
Well it looks good. Having not owned a PS3 or 360 or played on one extensively, I cant exactly gauge how much of a leap it is but for the most part, the games I've played on it look alright.
Maybe my expectations were a bit too high though as there's still a bunch of aliasing and low-res textures in COD and Infamous is all over the place, looking absolutely amazing at points but at others, filled with clipping issues and inconsistent textures. Games look good but maybe my expectations were too high, it's still the beginning of the generation though so things are subject to change/
Gameplay:
Uh, I dunno, same as always. Depends on the game. From what I've played so far, Infamous is pretty fun and COD is COD but with exosuit shit.
OS:
FOR ONE
- Everything I buy is tied to an account, that's pretty cool.
- There's this crazy thing called chat that I dont have to exit out of a game to use. I get notifications and shit when someone is online too, it's all futuristic and stuff.
- I can background download.
- System is responsive as fuck. But from what I've used of the XMB, that was too so no surprise there.
Summary:
I like the system and it feels good to finally be on the next-gen train.
For those who want to add me at PSN, ID is 'DoritoPope'.
