Okay okay okay, so I got the game recently ($20 on sale on PSN for Vita) and I've wanted to try the game properly.
First, a prologue. My first experience with the game was at a friend of mine's house. His sister got the game so it was my friend, his sister, a person who may or may not be Gahars, and myself decided to give it a shot. I wasn't too impressed with it there but we didn't do the tutorial or anything so I was basically just running around smacking people with a brief idea of what to do. However like most fighters I figured you needed a proper introduction to it (learn the basics, combos, etc) so I figured buying it myself would make it better.
It did. I actually am quite enjoying it. First things first, this is not Super Smash Bros. Not in the slightest. The combat engine is really different. From actually combos to how characters play to how you score points, it's wholly unique.
I'd say my two biggest complaints is some balancing issues and maybe it could go a bit farther. I think the big balancing issue is Kratos, who is just completely overpowered. All his attacks are great, all his Super moves are great, he's just incredibly well rounded and he's just way too good. Mind you, if they did any balancing I didn't download it since the patch download was like 800MB (which I don't have space for) but I don't think they did. However I did find myself able to perform decently with just about every character. Personal favorite is probably Radec.
For the "go a bit farther", I just think it could use more. Most fighters are rather barebones, and this is no exception. It has an arcade mode, some trials, some tutorials, and of course versus mode, but nothing that sets it apart. I really think it could benefit from some unique challenges and I'd even like a SSBB-esque large adventure mode. It has a wealth of unlockables but they're mostly just an alternate costume for each character, "Minions" that cheer you on when you play, player titles, icons, backgrounds, etc. Nothing too fancy.
But overall, I like the game. I like the cast (people bitch about Crash and Spyro but they can't do a whole fucking lot about that) and I like the way it plays. I'd say it was worth my money. I'll probably buy Kat and Emmet when I get my $10 voucher for spending over $50. Maybe Zeus and Isaac too if I end up breaking another $50.
