Past scene drama (why ARN was renamed)

Since I explained this to a couple of people who asked me in private, I figured I could put it here if anyone is interested.

"I swear I really respected Rei at first (Luma was originally named "AuReiNAND" to reflect that he was the author of the original project). I was also with him on a Skype group, CTRDev, and I was chill with him, he genuinely seemed like a nice person and we got along. Then at some point he started the "bloat meme" and discussions about my code sucking increased, he even brought it to reddit where he made a post about it (but then CTRDev members convinced him to take it down). Then one day someone added a fake account ("DILIGAF") to CTRDev, who started insulting me in a very bad way. CTRDev is a private group, so it was one of us. That day (it was at the end of April) I had just argued with Rei and he misgendered me as well, I have logs of the argument and of DILIGAF:
http://pastebin.com/7CL2SuZZ
http://pastebin.com/MRhe2ePJ
After this was over me and Tux investigated it, Tux used some Skype IP tool to determine his IP, and we sent it to GBAtemp staff. The outcome was that it was most likely a GBAtemp regular, since the IP blocks matched; coincidentally it was a person we found out got close to Rei: http://i.imgur.com/75pbunM.png (he also had stuff about Luma being bloated in his GBAtemp signature).
So with everything figured out, we exposed Rei to the CTRDev members and he left saying the group sucked.
Some time later (one month I believe?) Rei asked Ryan to take over CTRDev's then admin's account (he either had the password, as this person claims to have given it to him; or he guessed it but it doesn't really matter) and take over and spam the group. And so he did. http://i.imgur.com/JHWcnRL.png
Other than this, I was shown screenshots of Rei shit talking me on the Discord 3dsch*** group (3dsch*** is where the "DILIGAF" person came from, they just seem to be a circle of people who hate me for some reason).
I called him out because I just had enough. As it can be seen in the screenshots in the other blog post he knew this would happen before my github was messed with and the transphobic things were posted here. And Punderino posted lots of things that Rei uses to say (like that I copy Rei's work and stuff http://i.imgur.com/SYaO9LY.jpg ). He even used transphobic expressions that Rei uses towards me (I'd rather not repeat those). So even assuming Rei didn't have a hand in the hacking, he definitely had one in "setting him up" for this; I already saw once on the wiiubru IRC that Ryan and Punderino repeated Rei's insults."

Here's my 2 cents based on ^
1) People argue. It's in our nature. We also make mistakes
2) From what I've perceived, the code copying started as a joke, and frankly insults from a complete stranger mean very little
3) Misgendering could have been a mistake. Also, that's justified reasoning to change the name (imo)
4) Some more justified reason
5) This happened a fair while ago.. Rei was behind that, but that was then
6) Rei wasn't responsible for this, that was all Ryan and that panchinko or something guy..

Overall I'm dead neutral because this started like 9 months ago, and good arguments are on both side. Not that this is an argument, but I don't have a better word. Good night.

I don't know, there is no fact other than Ryan "saying" Rei told him to do so, which I wouldn't believe someone of that character anyway who's probably trying to save some face.

Rei misgendered you which was wrong and he apologized it seems. However I don't see any other form of LGBT insults or code stealing accusations from him in your posts. Maybe he told Ryan the situation in passing and Ryan went awol.

Maybe this demon hunting started because you were extremely hurt (I would have been to) and Rei became the scapegoat.

I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. Both of you seem like genuinely good people.

Anyway I respect you and your work, but it's sad to see some of your team behaving in a similar fashion on the ReiNAND thread.

Get some rest girl! Happy Friday!

Sure, I'll bite
1) Arguing can mean so many things. You could consider it arguing while Rei is just trying to make conversation. Misgenders me once isn't an argument, ONCE. That's something a SJW would say
2) You early said in another thread "this didn't bother you because strangers on the internet don't bother me". So.......
3) It isn't anybodys problem or need to gender you correctly on the internet. You have to say these things.
4) You had probably made Rei mad, as he was maybe fed up with you. Also, what is 3dsch***? It doesn't make it clear and probably isn't needed
5) Rei may have asked, but Ryan actually did it. You seem to try to point this on Rei more than anybody else.
6) What does this have to do with Rei? My point exactly.

This shouldn't even be going on anymore

It wouldn't matter if it was a year ago. If others are fueling the fire that Rei started he's still responsible IMO. It seems pretty far fetched to me that he didn't know about his friends flaming AW after arguing publically (more or less), but I digress. Bottom line is open source is just that, open. Everyone has their own way of coding. Just because YOU prefer one way doesn't mean another way doesn't work (bloated code be damned). The end result is really all that matters. If someone is upset they developed something and someone else forked it and improved it, the solution would be to improve your OWN original source code; not to bash someone who actually did that. Or you know work together on a project or something.

Majickhat55, people are responsible for their own actions. Saying that Rei is responsible for what happened is ridiculous, especially considering there's no publicly-verifiable evidence to suggest he directly encouraged anyone's actions. Generally speaking, I agree with the points that VinLark made and I am willing to give Rei the benefit of the doubt. I am also willing to give it to Aurora, as I do not necessarily think that she made this blog post to pin everything on Rei. At any rate, people make mistakes, and I do not think that the best way to combat drama is to keep reigniting it.

@VinLark 3ds*** w/e is a romsite, i assume thats why its bleep'd. (i dont know if its acknowledged by temp yet )
And back then it was a small discord with like 7 people on it, one of which was the fire starter (supster). People warned me about him prior to things happening too, lol.
@Majickhat55 Thanks for drinking the poisoned punch, come again :P
I was never mad that they forked my code. I stated several times back then i made it open sourced for a reason. I haven't updated it in a while for 2 reasons. 1) I have better things to be focusing on in both irl and 3DS stuff. 2) If it works, dont fix it. People download cfw for homebrew and/or piracy. I gave people that on N3DS because no one wanted GW. Then people wanted o3ds support, fair enough. Gave them that. Everything else is just silly features that could be achieved through other means like emulators, but some people are still asking so i guess why not..

Well that wasn't the main point of my post. It was merely to say that open source code is free to be used by anyone. I wasn't trying to reignite anything, just stating my opinion like everyone else.

I didn't mean to say that you were reigniting anything (that statement was meant to apply to Aurora and Rei primarily, though it could apply equally to anyone involved). I know it wasn't the main point of your post, I just thought it was worth saying.

Fuck them. It sounds like he got jealous because your stuff became the standard cfw for most modders, especially those new to the scene. If anything, he should have been happy his contributions evolved into something huge. I've noticed that coders in this scene are quick to get pissy and want to take their toys and go home, instead of having an altruistic attitude and generally wanting to contribute like I've experienced with past scenes. Idk if it's this community or the zeitgeist of this generation, but it's a sad thing to see keep happening over and over. Don't worry, we fucking love you. You do alot for this community and we appreciate it, even if it doesn't seem that way sometimes.

Anyways, the worst thing is that Rei pulled off some transphobic insults when facing the truth. Usually when I am pissed off and have no arguments left, I sometimes start to use off-topic/shitty arguments ("It's like this cuz I've decided so") but I never, ever use discrimination. There are some limits.

Guys, at the end of day, WHO the f*ck cares whose programming is better as long as it works? People who bash other people's programming skills just to prove they are better, are insecure brats in my opinion.

A: Hey you, look at my awesome l33t skillz! Nobody is better than me!

B: Whatever, get lost, loser..

To be honest, given the example provided by Rei I don't think there were problems regarding a better coding style, because one example looks like poo and the other like pee. /s
But coding style could be a real problem when you want your project to move forward.
If the code is hard to read, it takes a lot of time for other programmers to understand and deal with it and add functionality.
If the code is unmaintainable and the architecture is not flexible, implementing new functionality could be a PITA and require reengineering.

I could perfectly understand a complain regarding how the code is written even if the thing works right now, and it is related to further development, to the future. That said I don't mean it is the case right now, I only mean it could be a valid topic for complaining in a potential hypothetical case for any project in general.

For the post above, take rxTools for example. There was a reason the pasta team gave up on it after the whole RE drama and open source/source passed thing. IIRC hardcoded addresses, little flexibility, etc. Sadly i can't read through code for my life and i'm only repeating what has been said by reputable members (who were also devs at the time).

These type of arguments could lead to both Rei or Aurora giving up on the scene, annnnd who knows what happens when a CFW is no longer being mantained or updated? RxTools? Anyone? Exactly. They die/Break with new updates unless the 3ds is EOL.

Anyone can choose to be blind on the matter and care that their CFW keeps working. But if people in the scene don't learn to get along, we can even run out of CFW/devs.

As for "who's right" and who's wrong, time will tell on what side you should have standed, no one can cover up stuff/intentions forever.

@Xiphiidae @VinLark his friend who insulted me popped up out of nowhere that day, and it's a private Skype group (hence someone added him).

Couldn't he have hacked the group? He's got a proven track record of doing that.
I would rather believe Rei than Ryan, because Rei is here facing the issue and Ryan is not, for that I give him the benefit of the doubt.

There is a lot of misplaced blame going on here and it's starting to seem more and more like a witch hunt/conspiracy theory. It seems like Rei is the scapegoat for all of Ryan's actions and I think it's due to the emotions running high (which I completely understand because it was a horrible thing for Ryan to do).

Anyway, I see both points of view now that we go Rei's side of the story and I think the truth lives somewhere in the middle.

Can we now move on to enjoying ReiNAND and Luma3DS?

Happy Friday!

@el_gonz87 I don't think you can hack a private skype group, you can hack an account, I know that somewhat firsthand. Someone who used to be in the GBA league I gen for had their account hacked and shared PMs with everyone over some non-malicious spam (that one of the hosts deemed malicious out of precaution). Never spammed group chat, could full have done it though. Skype groups I've been in were invite only, and AW established that this particular one is private, invite only. Of course I could be wrong, though I can't imagine how a private group chat can be hacked.
