So this Thursday and Friday we had a game event in the city, Northern Game Summit (NGS). There were lots of interesting speakers, like Vlad Micu, Peter Vesterbacka, Allan McKay... timetable to the event here, at least until it gets taken down. I loved every minute of the event itself, and even though I'm a teatotaller, had fun in the party after Day 1, and got to talk to a few interesting people like Mr. Rovio, and even got a person telling me to apply for internship at his company when I need to (I just started to study Game Engine Programming). Lots of inspirational things were said, like:
"No better foundation than rock bottom"
"Celebrate both failure and success"
"World is tiny if you stop believing you can't reach your dreams"
"Adversity brings us together"
"We are able to walk on water, and you can do it too"
But what I loved about the event the most was how tightly knit and close the Game Industry is. All of the different people from different nationalities (Finns, Brits, Australians, Germans, Americans...), the people who have achieved great things already and the people just starting out their career or studies on the field, we all were like one big family. Even a noob student like me got to talk to big names in the industry, and wasn't shunned as a nobody. I can't wait until next year when the event will be held again (hopefully). If you ever get a chance to go to an event like that, go, you will not regret it. I never imagined any industry could be like this, and now I'm heading towards a career there. I'm going to love it I'm sure.
