Metroid, Amiibo and the Case of on-disc Day One DLC

So um.. yeah, Nintendo's latest behavior regarding Samus Returns and it's amiibo managed to enrage me enough to write an article about it. Fuckin hell Nintendo, when will you stop fucking things up and just make fun games.

Shall we get public execution that ubisoft/EA/Activision/M$/$ony cutted contents from full game and have u to preorder the season pass??

@Hells Malice -

a. my blog has been pretty well received so far.
b. I use my blog for gaming opinion, thoughts and reviews. If I want to complain about day to day life/shitpost, I use my blog here (like everyone else does). The reason I have a separate blog for that is simply because I like writing, and try to get people to read what I write. If I were just to write here, I would get lumped in with all the other complainers/life sux blog posts every other temp member makes. If I write on my own blog (and mind you, this is my own domain, bought by yours truly), it stands out a little from the crowd as being my own 'thing' for the lack of a better word.
c. I use analytics to feel good about myself at night :).

Disc Locked Content (I guess Cart locked in nintendo's case these days) is yet another reason every system needs to be thoroughly and utterly cracked.

I always though that you would contribute to post once but you clearly don't.
I love reading his blogs and unlike your comments, I enjoy them.

If ya don't like it, don't share your useless opinion on it. /shrug
(And i'm just going to bookmark your blog i guess?)

Well, at least it isn't as bad as the case with UMVC 3. Surprisingly, I think Infinite will be doing the same thing, but four to six characters on-disc and the only positive (to make it look less douche-y) will be, "We're adding characters (that should have been in the game upon release), but we absolutely want you to buy DLC, so we couldn't leave the data on the disc for miners. Buy our broken offering so we can release Super MVC Infinite with three-on-three character battles."

I always thought people pissing and moaning about any form of DLC are at the bottom... And for good reason no less.

Now, your reasons make sense and are far more thought out than "why didn't they just release the full game durrrrr". Not allowing us to unlock these specific bonuses through just playing the game is, in fact, a Nintendo move. I personally think all amiibo memorabilia is a waste of time, effort and money.

It's a pathetic cash grab.. And when they introduce limited editions that unlock specific content? It's a rat race for scalpers. I wasn't planning on buying Samus Returns, just because I would like to put my hard earned money toward the switch.. And after this was announced? I feel justified.

You're right. Though I don't care for the shameless plug for your personal blog... But at least isn't a damned Diply link.

Blog that leads to a blog?

All the amiibos serve to do is add stuff that WOULD have been in games prior, but let's be honest, this isn't the 1990s anymore. Sound test and art galleries have been replaced by YouTube and spriters resource. They aren't really necessary anymore. The hard mode being locked by amiibo would have been terrible, but that was confirmed to be a false report from IGN. The map thing is the only real negative from requiring an amiibo, and it's a small thing anyways. Samus Returns doesn't lock any game levels or postgame content, and honestly, I think THAT would have been the real "nintendo" move. I don't agree with Nintendo doing this, but it's not THAT bad in this instance.

@Chary - Maybe, but as a counterargument, I'd like to note that most Nintendo games nowadays have the sound test for free, not behind amiibo.

Hard mode is interesting. Fusion mode is supposedly harder than hard mode, so it's still locking it behind amiibo. Which still means they are locking a game difficulty behind amiibo.

Well is a remake of Metroid 2 right, that game doesn't have a map, so i guess in their case, considered a luxury? One of the reasons why I didn't like the first 2 metroid games was cause of no map and getting lost easy, so I just never finished it. Is just as bad as playing Phantasy star on master system with the 3D maze dungeon and everything is too much the same, or phantasy star 2 where all the dungeons are huge mazes that have too many dead ends and adding multiple layers of floors makes it difficult to get in and then out without wasting too much time.

I mean maybe the game is good enough to not need a map this time, but then finding items was more reliant on map data in later metroid games like Super metroid or Zero mission. At least the end of Zero mission, if you clear the game the number of collected/missed items are displayed on the map screen so you can look for the leftovers. Honestly I like metroid zero mission and super metroid, I probably would appreciated metroid zero mission 2 be based on metroid 2 but that ship has sailed.

I know OP is upset, but nintendo is just trying to salvage what use of amiibo they have left since they did include it in the first place. I dunno much about metroid or the amiibo thing before reading but hey, zero mission had a gallery mode you could unlock by using metroid fusion to trade it into the game. Sound silly right? 2 GBA, link cable metroid fusion and zero mission and you trade a art gallery into the game. O_O

I hope sonic mania has a sound test, that be heartbreaking if it did not. I always want sound test in my games, instead of getting to a level just to hear the music, when i can just get straight to sound test. The game music is best source, the music loops properly while youtube songs don't unless you find one of the really long extended ones lasting hours. As for harder modes, that should always be unlockable, unlike breath of the wild which has master mode as part of $20 dlc.

I understand the points made, but sadly is not much people can do unless cheats or hacking could unlock it for you, I never liked using amiibo to be honest, the only interest I had with amiibo was smash bros character development, then they just reduced it to costume grabbing status for other games and other minor stuff, instead of making it useful like I remember them talking about it. The fact the NFC was in the wii u which released in 2012 and they first started making use of it 2 years later when super smash bros came out in november was already 2 years wasted on it that could have been used. I bought shovel knight amiibo cause I wanted to try custom knight, is actually fun and the devs made it optional to have. There is also shovel knight in Azure striker gunvolt 2, (probably the only reason why i bought the amiibos) Problem is what if there no way that amiibo will be useful outside those two games? We just spend money on collecting stuff, which is fine if you just like staring at something that can be put to use but isn't cause devs don't make it that way. :ninja:

@Sonic Angel Knight - Oh I am NOT disagreeing w/ you. But one small correction: The map thing adds Metroid markers (as in: Here's an alpha metroid, here's an omega metroid), not just a map. A minimap is by default. The Metroid markers are amiibo locked.

Well I dunno much about it, after E3 I didn't bother to worry much, I just didn't find metroid 2 appealing. The spider ball was unique since it only appeared in that game but, I hated fighting metroids, they move too much and hard to aim especially when you got only 4 directions to aim at.

I tried that Another metroid 2 remake, Is a bit better, but once again trying to hit metroids in the UNDERBELLY is just to difficult for them moving so much and them taking way too many standard missiles to kill. I always wondered why metroid games have you collect so many missiles, over 200, then games like metroid other M where missiles aren't a issue cause you can recharge it at will. CONVENIENT! But I hope this game is easier than the gameboy one was.

@Sonic Angel Knight - Spider ball also appeared (although in a slightly more limited fashion) in the prime series.

The trick with metroids in AM2R is that you need to jump first so that they go up and shoot after you land while they are still up. Once you hit them, they are stunned for a couple seconds so you can get additional hits in (they dont have invincibility frames).

G
splatoon had amiibo exclusive content. the only difference was that it wasn't worth using.

But think about it, all 4 amiibo prices will amount to more than the game itself is selling for.

Also, funny how a complaint about Nintendo's move with their Metroid 2 remake is posted exactly 1 year after a complaint on their move with AM2R. Timing or coincidence?

I just don't like fighting enemies where they only have one weak spot, and the worst weak spot ever, the bottom, why not the head or something? Who tries to aim under someone to shoot them? :wtf:
