Is it wrong to be "proud to be an American"?

So I'm American and I'm proud of it. I'm proud of the men and women who have fought and are fighting to defend our country. I'm proud of the ideals and dreams our country was founded on. And I'm proud of. And I'm proud to live in a country with the energy and liveliness that is distinctly American. Now I'm aware that our country is flawed. I'm aware the government is far from perfect (though not as bad as people say), and I'm aware that the past few years may have been a step back in societal advancement, but there's a lot of good to be found here. All I've seen on the internet recently are posts on how tragic America is and how it's the worst place in the world. This comes especially from my generation millenial-gen z (if you consider gen z existant). I feel like this is part of a larger issue where younger generations "rebel" as a way to stand out, but end up being just like everyone else. However, that's a topic for a different day. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I wish people were less... confrontational for lack of a better term, and could enjoy what they had. Anyway, sorry for the little rant or whatever. This is just a piece of what's been going on in my mind lately.

This is libtemp,so here its not okay.

@DrGreed how exactly are they going to do that? Again, our current system ALREADY kicks people off who aren't being proactive in looking for a job, anything more just feels overkill to be honest

I'd take that as an answer except that you've been saying that this proposal to restrict welfare will only affect people who don't work and are able to. If you can't explain how they're going to do that, how do you know that's even the case?

That would depend on what you consider 'un-American'. It's very easy to accurately get the measure of a person by what they consider as 'other'.

I'm curious as to why you would think it is wrong to be proud of the country you live in. I live in Canada and im proud to be Canadian. Canada is by no means perfect. The U.S.A is not perfect either. Although there are many things to be proud of in both countries there are many things not to be proud of as well. So if someone questions you about why your proud of being American, tell them exactly why. If they aren't proud of the country that they live in, ask them to explain themselves. Maybe they need a reminder of the good points. Getting reminded of the bad points is good to, so that one doesn't become too cocky or full of it. Any how, this is just another opinion. I'll be on my way :)

The problem most have with Americans is that they're mostly nationalists. Most say they're not but as soon you have some critique about the US they get well sorta aggressive. The thing with patriotism is that it comes dangerously close to nationalism and it isn't that different in the long run. Just start to critique most americans about the US and you'll see how aggressive and defensive they get. Most people see flaws in their country and don't claim their own to be the best while Americans mostly do and when you say they aren't well a whole shitstorm breaks loose

Well not all americans are like that, Yes some get more aggressive then need be but that is only a problem when they boast about the U.s.a as being the top and don't acknowledge the fact that its not perfect.

@Acrux obviously, yes, it's not all, but it's enough that it's becoming a bit of a problem/concern for the rest of us

I tried making chocolate lava cakes the other day in cupcake pan, what a mess, my lava exploded out of the cakes everywhere while baking, was still ok tho, just no lava inside.

We had our grandkids over yesterday and I got a small above ground swimming pool I filled for them to play in. Well today I woke to find 3 ducks swimming around in it. Don't mind really but they are annoyingly loud, quack quack. Gotta drain it today. Guess what were having for dinner, lol.

I used butter instead of vegetable oil, and think that's why they squirted out during baking, who knows
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:

plus if you're making brownies or lava cakes for people with dairy allergies, you should use oil instead of butter anyway

I make rum cake for 4th July every year, I make it a week prior and then soak it in rum in the fridge all week. I flip the cake each day, and add little more rum, it soaks it up everyday, so good.

Me and wifey was deciding on our next vacation, so I hung up a map on the wall, and give her a dart and said, wherever you hit, we will go. She threw the dart and it missed the map completely and fell into a trash can below on floor. So I said "ok Florida it is."
