I need your opinoin on something. (Parent's opinion that is)

Right, so I'm a child, kid, teen, whatever.
Anyways, over the summer, I was thinking of making videos for youtube (Like I do now.)
However, I want to stop hiding with it, and just come out and tell them.
So, parents, I'm wondering if I approached you in these scenarios, how would you react, how would you react.

Scenario 1.
Me: Hey mom and dad. So, over the summer, in order to pass some time, instead of me playing video games all day, would it be okay if I made Youtube videos? I might narrate, but I can assure you it's safe.

Scenario 2.
Me: Hey mom and dad. Summer's coming up and I wanted to start on this whole Youtube thing. I was wondering if you would allow me to narrate some videos and upload them. I'm sure that it's safe.

Other.
Come up with your own way to tell it to them for me? Thanks. :D

Why do you feel the need to justify your hobby? Unless these videos happen to be hardcore porn, I don't think you need to explain anything to anyone. Go have fun.

I'm sorry you're one of those kids with super-paranoid parents. I knew a dude whose parents were so lame, they wouldn't let him watch cartoons.

ONTOPIC: If you ask me, Scenario 1 and Scenario 2 are pretty much the same.

Why on earth do your parents disapprove of Youtube, anyway? It seems to me to be a wonderful creative outlet.

Uhm, I don't know how yuor parents are, but my parents think it's the same as playing video games. Your still after your PC. If your a PC gamer. See what I mean?

Unless you're the commenter...

Am I right people?!

The big "problem" as perceived by many parents refracted through the prism of over the top news coverage is that kids are out there youtubing themselves inappropriately, attracting the attention of weirdos etc.

If you allow them the "final" say on whether it gets uploaded I'm sure that would go quite some way to alleviate any reservations they may have.

Methinks they won't disapprove of you making videos all summer but the fact that you'll be posting them on YouTube, which has turned into a cesspool of failure and stupid. Maybe if you found somewhere else to upload and leak your videos they would applove most likely?

Seriously just state that you enjoy making videos. From what I've seen of your channel there's nothing morally objectable about it. If you're parents are open minded and can react with a dash of sense, you should have no problem.

I have the same problem. My parents think everything to do with YouTube is bad. As a result, I have to make videos when they're gone. It's really pretty ridiculous, because the most you can ever see in my videos is my hands (and whatever I'm reviewing/explainig about, etc.) I do narrate them, but is it really unsafe to have people hear your voice?

Ranting aside, it depends what kind of videos you plan on doing. If you're just doing reviews or whatever, you would even be fine not telling them, like you have been. If you're doing something like making movies with your friends, then you should ask.

Tl;dr: go with option 1.

Hehh.
Iunno, they kinda thought I was watching porn.
It was an underwear add.
Over reaction fail.

Also, I dunno, I'll probably tell them at a point, but I'm just not just how to get on to the topic.

Scenario 3: Don't bother mentioning it, unless your parents are super strict and are over your shoulder every minute while you are on the internet.

Hmm, I would try Scenario number 2 since then if they heard scenario 1 they would think your gonna give up video gaming for the summer or something the likes.

Hmm, it seems that a lot of my suggestions have a chance of being taken the wrong way...

So basically you're just narrating, you're never actually visible in your videos? And you're only talking about games, and not giving out personal info. Show them a few of the videos, show them that they're harmless. Tell them it's journalism ^_^

not that I think it should be hidden but I see no point in telling your parents if you make youtube videos

I agree with those who say you don't need to justify yourself. Go ahead and do it, if they find you tell them you're just making some videos for youtube and redo the take when they're gone.

^This^ You can say it's the first step to being a real gaming journalist. A statement which probably isn't all that far from the truth. If they're so strict that they'd still yell at you after yu've said such things are vital to your future career, then move out, there's no hope.
