DevBlog: Preparing gameplay video for the Wii

The last preview version I uploaded for the Wii was kind of buggy and missing some nice new features. Mostly the splashscreens when it's started, but in addition to that there were also some bugs that showed a big white block near the dragon. No idea what was causing that but my latest test on real hardware showed that this is no longer happening. Yay!

Because I have been working on ports for many systems since then: PlayStation 2, Wii U and Switch I have probably fixed it without knowing what I did exactly. But I have also been trying to improve the collision system which is turning into my nemesis! I hate IT deeply! There is a new bug that when you get "stuck" in a wall or roof....you are ejected to the other side of it!!! This issue is not specific to the Wii though, it's a bug in the core collision correction that I need to fix at some point! While capturing the Linux GamePlay video I was really careful not to hit the walls and roofs in a way that triggers this bug. I had to redo the entire thing about 3-4 times :rofl2:

The whole reason I am making these video's now is because I promised the owners to show my progress and what it actually looks like. I have done that with just the video of the Linux version....but why not do it for all platforms right? Each of them is slightly different in how to launch it and having music and/or sound effects working. Some also have a different resolution because of hardware limitations which is most visible on the 3DS. The Wii U is running at a slightly larger resolution and so is the Switch version. It's not a big deal or anything but it's just enough difference for me to take the effort of capturing separate video's for them.

And I can't use the emulators for any of them since emulation is not perfect....and on some of them it's just to slow to really enjoy it. Running on hardware has so far always turned out to be perfectly smooth so that's what I need to capture it from. But now it seems that the small LCD screen I was planning to use is introducing a lot of lag and stuttering with the Wii connected with composite cables. Yeah, I know the quality is bad anyway and I should really hook up the OSSC that I got specifically for connecting older game consoles over HDMI. Hopefully that will give a better smoother image but we will see ^_^ It's still possible other things are causing the stuttering....like a bug somewhere slowing things down just enough. :shy:

I will update this post later if the video is ready or if it's going to be delayed. :D;)

I have not been able to record the gameplay of the Wii version yet, since I want to use my OSSC for that....but I can't seem to find the damn thing!! It's probably in a box somewhere but the question is which one! :ohnoes:

What I did work on between searching and resting is trying to port libmikmod to the GameCube and Wii. There are still some issues with the driver I had to write....but the music is playing!!! It sounds like it should but as soon as the sample buffer is empty the slight delay is noticeable. But even with that bug in it there is a good change the next release might have the background music playing! FINALLY! :D

Just wanted to say this video is delayed...obviously ...since I was working on getting the music driver to work better. :D

I also have most components for getting a hopefully better image out of my wii using a component cable to my OSSC and then HDMI to a mini display! The only thing left is finding those stupid audio converter plugs so I can record the Wii's audio directly instead of through the crappy webcam's microphone! And that is only for the connections!! :D

The other thing I want to show in the video is that it can be played with different controllers. That is I think the best feature of the Wii version! You can play it with: Wiimote, GameCube controller, classic controller's (Wii, NES and SNES) and the Wii U Pro controller! I think I will start the video with booting the wii into homebrew channel and launching my game using the gamecube controller. Then after a few seconds of play...switch controllers and do that for all of them but not more than maybe 10 seconds for each of them. This will allow me to try the youtube chapter features ;)

It's just an idea though about the controllers. Maybe I am making it to complex...or boring to watch. Overthinking it a little? Maybe? :rofl2:

BigOnYa @ BigOnYa: I played the intro to far cry 5, that is like some crazy Jim Jones cult shit. Still its petty...
