DevBlog: Making video's is really hard work!

It's really not as easy as "press record" to make a video. Sure, it will record that easily but you need to consider A LOT of things besides that! Lighting, reflections, focus, distance to object, etc..... and then I am not even talking about the sound! (not important as I do not plan on talking in my video's just yet :blush::blush:). The stuttering and lag I had before from my wii were due to the crappy cheap LCD screen! Hooking it up through the OSSC did not help at all!! Only connecting it to another monitor solved it and made me reconsider how to record the video output from the Wii.

The plan was to point my webcam at the screen and record it as I play with the controller just before the screen. Showing that it's actually that controller which is controlling the game.;) But no matter which LCD or monitor you try to capture with a webcam....it's going to look like :shit:! So I will limit actual "screen recording" to the portables and WiiU gamepad. For other systems I have now bought one of the cheaper HDMI -> USB capture devices that also has a HDMI pass through feature. If I end up liking making video's of gameplay or other stuff from HDMI I might invest in some better capture device. For now this one makes a decent capture from the wii that is good enough for my purposes at the moment. There is a slight 2-3 frames delay but that might just be OBS that is buffering the video. The actual video capture does look like it skips a frame but it also seems to do it consistently. Making it less anoying and it looks like a lower that 60fps framerate. Looking at the monitor using the pass through HDMI the Wii's output is really sharp and smooth, so it's a thing with the capture card for sure! But it's WAY better than me holding my phone in one hand and trying to use a controller with the other....near impossible! :rofl2:

I have tested this setup yesterday and it mostly works. I have configured a scene in OBS that has the HDMI capture fullscreen and my webcam pointed at the wii itself with me holding the controller in front of it! Silly maybe, but it's how I want to do it and show that the Wii allows so many different controllers. At the same time even! I had the wiimote and WIi U pro controller connected at the same time.....using the d-pad on the WiiU pro and jumping on the wii mote. Weird for sure...but it worked!....some kind of bonus co-op multiplayer already! One player walks and the other jumps! Hahahaa:rofl2::rofl2:

The only real thing still missing is a good audio connection from the Wii component cable to the OSSC! It requires a RCA to 3.5mm adapter...and I have a lot of them....just don't know where. exactly! I have one plugged in right now but with out an "extension connector" they easily disconnect...as I just carefully placed the plugs on top of each other!:shy: It's fine to make sure the audio is working but not for capturing a video with it....as sometimes the connection is bad and you hear the sound cracking. Which is purely the connector and has nothing todo with how the sound from the Wii is produced! :)

And there I was thinking it would be simple! Ohh, yeah sure! I make a couple of gameplay video's for every console it works on!!! :shy::shy::rofl2:

To be continued....:D
