DevBlog: Going to upload the original in the download section on this site!

This is not a typical devblog where I go far to much into technical details about my homebrew remake of batterycheck. This is about taking care of the required game files and where to get them from. The owners have made it clear to me they don't have plans to provide the download themself on their website. They gave me the freedom to share the files in the way I think is best...as long as I make clear they are not responsible for the download itself. Most likely for legal reasons and stuff ^_^

My options as I see them are:
- point to the existing sources with a specific google search.
- Include them with my own installer.
- Put the Setup.exe or Batterycheck.zip in the download section on GBATemp

While option two has some advantages....I decided to go with option three! I don't want the owners to change their mind and have my installer download taken offline. However unlikely it might be that they would do this...it's a slight change. By providing the installer in the proper download section here on GBATemp even PC gamers that know nothing about my remake can download it. What I like most is that it looks sort of official and looks more trustworthy than even the original page I linked to back in 2018! :D

It will come with a disclaimer that the owners gave permission but are not responsible for any damages related to that download...stuff like that. It's a small price to pay for the convenience of having it available in an easy to find location right?

Since I have not looked at the code of my game for a while and I just got back from a vacation...things are kind of blurry at the moment on that front. But this was the one thing I want to get done today! ^_^

Until next time :D

@KleinesSinchen and @niuus : My appologies for asking your attention in this way. The download page is up! https://gbatemp.net/download/batterycheck-original-pc-platform-game.37213/

To anyone who would like to comment on my description of the download page....please let me know if it's alright or if I should rewrite some parts. I think the important stuff is there and while I consider my English to be "ok"....an extra pair of eyes does not hurt in this case.

Thanks in advance :D

English there looks more than enough for the task.

All these homebrew ports to different things might end up being something of a test bed for it all.
Does this also mean all that dynamic recreation/conversion of the files you did a while back is essentially for nothing?

@FAST6191 : Thanks for checking my description for the download. I wrote it so quickly while also being tired...I lost my confidence if it made any sense.:shy:

I am not exactly sure what you mean by "a test bed for it all". Nothing changes for the homebrew ports themself but this new download page is going to be the one I will link to for getting the original files from. After I also have it looked at by the owners to get their approval on the disclaimer text I translated from the Dutch version they sent me. So instead of being vague about where to get the files....this will be it. :D

With the dynamic conversion of the files I think you mean that during the startup process I create textures for the target platform. Or my recent idea of "sprite dicing" to fit more sprites into a single texture to save VRAM. Both are still valid as this new download is only the original game files. It's in fact the exact same ZIP file that was available from the very first page I linked to in 2018 but is now offline. It contains the original installer for a windows PC.

My own custom installer can read this ZIP file and/or the Setup.exe within and extract the required game files directly on a game console. I still need to port that thing to the more recent platforms: WiiU, PS2 and switch.

Hopefully that clears it up a little :)

I was thinking test bed for me when testing homebrew/mods/flash carts on various system.

BigOnYa @ BigOnYa: I played the intro to far cry 5, that is like some crazy Jim Jones cult shit. Still its petty...
