Gaming is getting to be harder

Why? Because stores here don't have games anymore. EB Games for example, sure they buttfuck you with your pants still on, but at least they have a big selection... if you're looking for older games. Mario 3D Land has been out since November correct? Then why is it not possible to find the damn game without having to drive 100+km? (Yes, it is that much according to their map from my location). I've been dying to play the game, but no store has the game. No store also has Wii's for sale.

I love my 3DS, but I'm getting pissed that because stores not ordering and shipment not shipping enough, my 3DS is collecting dust now. You'd figure with a Mario game, they would stock a lot. Hell they did for Mario Galaxy even when I went to pre-order that. They said "no, you don't need to, we have a lot".

This blows.

If you trust eBay you can get 3D land for less than $40 total, while stores here in the US charge you $39.99 + tax. Other games you can get for like $32. :P

Shop online. Places like Amazon usually offer free shipping, and getting it eventually is better than never finding it. Usually cheaper online, too.

I don't bother with physically going out to buy a game if I can help it, unless I want it on the launch day.

I think Amazon offers to have your game at your doorstep on launch day for like $1 (that's for all S&H + the date) for pre-orders. I pre-ordered Mass Effect 3 and they said it'd be at my house on March 6th (the release date).

But yeah, shop online. Amazon usually has pretty good prices on used games, most games that are like a year or two old now are usually between $10-$20, depending on the game.

EDIT: Yeah, double checked my ME3 pre-order and it says my delivery estimate is March 6th, no ifs, ands, or buts.

Amazon US does, yeah. It's fantastic and has a huge selection.
Amazon Canada has like $20 2-3 day shipping for its best deal. Or free 5+ day shipping if you spend over...$20 or something.
They used to ship games early so they'd arrive on time, but they seem to have stopped doing that. Amazon.ca did, anyway.

It's easy to say to shop online. I don't have a credit card, and there's no way in fuck I'm going to a store and spending a ridiculous amount for a prepaid card. Yeah, they're bad up here. If you want a $20 card, it's $30. I'd be spending more on the game then normal.

Paypal and generic bank card seem to go well together. I don't know how it's done in Canada, but here in the US, you can sign up for a bank account and get a Debit card which pulls money out of your account instead of credit.

Pretty sure we have that too.
Not sure if it works the same way, though.

Later on with Mario 3D Land, it took them two weeks to send that.

Prepaids are pretty cheap here in Toronto, Ontario. $25 for about $28. Is there tax on it in BC?

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds

It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
