2014: The Year of Mega Man

So, some of you who've seen some of my profile updates and posts last year know that I made a resolution to beat all the timeline-included Zelda games that I hadn't already beat. That resolution was successful, so this year I decided to do something similar with another series. After some debate as to what series I should do (I considered Metal Gear and even Sonic the Hedgehog at one point), I settled on Mega Man.

Before anyone asks, no, I'm not going to play every damn Mega Man spinoff (Battle Network, Legends). However, I do want to play every traditional game in the "main" series. And by "main" series, I mean those in each of the Classic, X, Zero, and ZX subseries.

Here's the list of games I intend to play, as well as indication of whether I've already played them or not. Games with a strikethrough are games I've already beaten. Games in bold are games I'm currently playing. Finally, games in italics are games I have partially-completed playthroughs of, but haven't touched in quite some time. Games that are available on multiple platforms will have the platform used in parenthesis next to the title (otherwise, assume they're played on their platform of origin). This list will be updated as I beat games.

Anyway, so yeah, a much more ambitious resolution for a harder series that I have less skill in. Wish me luck!

Classic series you should be able to do pretty quickly after some initial trial and error, although I found 9 to be brutal sometimes

Really? Last time I played Mega Man 1, I kept getting my ass kicked. I think the Zero series might actually be harder, but I've come to rely on dashes and wall jumps so much that I haven't really developed my ability to dodge bosses in particular with just timed jumps and movements alone. I'm sure skill will come with practice, though.

Anyway, I did some serious updates to the roster. Zero 3 and X3 have both been beaten, and I'm currently playing Zero 4, and will likely start X4 (and maybe restart ZX) after I finish. Also, I made a bunch of progress in hard mode in Maverick Hunter X (which I decided now deserves a spot on the list).

Just an update: I beat Mega Man Zero 4, thus ending my journey through the Zero subseries. I'm on Sigma stage 3 out of 4 in hard mode on Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, but I think I'm going to take a little break from that one. So next I'll play either X4 or ZX... I'm not sure which.

Another update: I ended up going back and beating Maverick Hunter X (hard mode) yesterday, as well as Mega Man Zero 4. Since then, I've started playing ZX from the beginning. Damn, I'm on a roll.

Wow, I've seriously forgotten to update this for quite some time. Since last post, I beat both Mega Man X4 and Mega Man ZX Advent, and started a playthrough of Mega Man X5. I rage quit X5 because the laser missed, even though I got all the parts. >:( I'll get back to it eventually, but the game is seriously annoying me, especially all the tutorials that show up every 10 seconds.

I also started a playthrough of Mega Man Zero (via the Collection on DS) on hard mode yesterday, on a whim. I may or may not see it through to completion.

Either way, doesn't look like I'm going to make this year's resolution (not even close, haha). But I'm still pretty impressed with the progress I made. :)

Decade-overdue update: LMAO I have proceeded to not beat a single other game on this list, though I've replayed the Zero and ZX games multiple times since then 😂
