Rant part 2: GBAtemp turns my emoticon : ) into :) but that is less annoying so I'll let it slide

Motion controls never work. Not sure why that was a trend fourteen-ish years ago, when they're demonstrably worse than traditional controllers in pretty much every way.

Oh, and as I think AkiraKurusu pointed out earlier today elsewhere, the new Switch should move its microSD card slot to the top of the console, instead of the bottom, so it's accessible while docked. Like, from left-to-right, it should be: power, volume, microSD slot, vent, headphone jack, game cart slot.
As it is, there's simply an empty space between the volume buttons and the vent, and exchanging microSD cards requires removing the Switch from the dock and opening the (weak) kickstand. Nintendo previously had a similar error and rectification - the New 3DS XL had its SD card tucked away behind the back plate, next to the battery; the 2DS XL thingy moved it to the side of the console, a la the original 3DS (the only improvement the 2DS XL had - removing stereoscopic 3D is just stupid), making it much more accessible.
Nintendo really should consider something similar for the new Switch model.

I didn't realize this would be a hot take.

@RichardTheKing wrong thread but I appreciate the enthusiasm. I'm in the "for motion controls" camp. I suggest watching the video "Why gamers hate motion controls (in their own words)" by Nerrel on youtube. It's pretty much all of the valid arguments in favor of them while addressing some common ones against

Agreed. It’s completely asinine that restaurants don’t pay their employees a decent wage, but as long as that’s the shitty situation they’re stuck in and they’re expecting tips to make ends meet, it’s unjustifiable to stiff them. I’d love for there to be a better system but there’s nothing else to be done in the meantime.

I live in a country where tips are not necessary nor expected. Far more enjoy that than the alternative. Not to mention I usually collect things anyway.

If you have to ask for it, you're not getting it. I only give it, if it warrants it. And many a time, it isn't. :angry:

@OldBoi
But there's a difference between receiving poor service and not tipping vrs stiffing someone for no reason.

@leon315
I'm pretty sure it's mostly a NA thing but essentially, if the service of your waiter at a restaurant is good, you give them extra money to say "thank you" because of this, a lot of restaurants underpay their staff and they rely on tips to make decent wages

The last places that asked for gracious tips got paid too much for the food / drink I bought from them, so no I don't tip. Shoot last time I got indian food it didn't even come with rice or a naan bread and they wanted a tip. I'm like what.

@leon315 but how can you think it’s as simple as asking your employer for a higher wage? Jobs that require tips are pretty much all entry-level jobs, so you’re easily replaced. You have no leverage to just get more money. You need the tips.

@leon315, welcome to America, where the 1% is infinitely richer than the 99%. It's easy to skew numbers that way.

It's easy to say "just tip", but when the people you're delivering to are probably also minimum wagers trying to scrape by with every dollar themselves, well...of course they're going to go for the cheaper option of disabling the tip entirely. Especially when Doordash will set a tip to be automatically at like, $5 for a $15 order. Even waiters who contribute a lot more service tend to get stiffed with no or 10% tips. Let alone places like Doordash TAKING some of the tip for themselves and not giving the full amount to the courier (this has since changed, afaik, but still...)

It's technically not economical for Doordash to pay their workers more, either. Supposedly the company just bleeds money and has never made a cent fiscally.

That being said, while I do think courier jobs are like, gig work, Doordash should compensate more than it does--the wear and tear or any car-related issues are held to the driver, the quality of the food tends to be blamed on the driver a lot of the time, etc. That's rough. It seems to be a supplementary job for those that need extra money rather than a primary job, which really sucks that that's a thing in the first place.
