Attention all ROM dumpers: Stop naming your ROMs like this.

It fucks up the Scraping process and adds HOURS of manual correcting. So if you dump game ROMs and name them this way for others to download in a ROMpack, you've got a big "fuck you" coming your way from me. :hateit:

Love yas!

Fair. But digitally, this is just stupid. The scraper has the name right: Disney's The Jungle Book. That's how I expect these to be named. Another great example of these marvelous fuck-ups is The Simpsons games.

Example, the ROM is named: Simpsons, The - Bart vs The Space Mutants <-- Don't do this!

The properly named ROM is: The Simpsons: Bart vs The Space Mutants <-- Do this!

‘The’ is usually ignored in sorting. This is normal, as you wouldn't want a huge section of names starting with ‘The’ in the middle of your list.

Its ignored in the game lists of EmulationStation when it's been scraped with the correct name, but scrapers don't pick up the "the" being moved. The hours of manually renaming roms (either before or after scraping) is maddening.

Couldn't the problem be solved with the emulationstation giving an option to sort by "the" or by the word after, the same could also apply to SNES "super" titles

I agree Jayro. I'm also inclined not to give a damn about a large section of my lists starting with "the" or "super" in the SNES cases because at least I know EXACTLY where the game would be in the list.

Power to the players! Aaaar... ;)

I totally agree with you! Same with bands on iTunes or even songs. It's just f**king annoying!

Before Spotify, I used to change them all the time.

It's the standard naming convention in GoodTools, No-Intro and Redump. It's not gonna change, and I prefer it this way when I don't use frontends, the sorting makes more sense.

I'm with The Real JDBye and Linuxares on this one. Having the actual parts of the title first with the article in the name coming after that is a good standard to name by, because it allows the game to be sorted within the proper alphabetical location for it.

However, I've always held that the best standard to name by is the Game's official release number, followed by the game's name and title. For instance, "[SCUS-94900] Crash Bandicoot (U)" would come before "[SCUS-94154] Crash Bandicoot 2 - Cortex Strikes Back (U)" in a listing by my preferred standard.

Well I hate wasting hours fixing them. Maybe I'll just go through each ROMpack at a time, fix them for scraping, and re-up them somewhere for EmulationStation users like myself.

^^^ i don't mind searching through jillions of ROMs starting with The, but when The is put on the end, scraping is wayyy more tedious

That sounds more like a failure of your scraping program than an underlying issue.

Equally that also seems like the sort of thing that is less "hours" to sort and more 30 seconds with a possibly even wildcard search and trivial with a regular expressions (probably even wouldn't bother "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly", or would that be "Good, the Bad and the Ugly, The", if you somehow ended up with something named that as the new cell/"." in the name/extension acts as a limiter).

Yeah, I don't like names like "Jungle Book, The", "Legend of Zelda, The", "Super Spy, The" or "Simpsons, The - Bartman Meets Radioactive Man".
I REALLY HATE THESE NAMES.
I prefer these names: "The Jungle Book", "The Legend of Zelda" (TLOZ), "The Super Spy" or "The Simpsons - Bartman Meets Radioactive Man".
Greetings ;)

Is it piracy if it was released for free? Not in my opinion, but I also think it's not piracy if buying it isn't owning it, and it's not piracy if you can't buy it from the original creators anymore.
