Nintendo and Sony should release some of their games on PC

Ok, now bear with me here. If they do this, they will gain millions of users who would love to play their games on PC! This is an unlikely thing to happen, but I would love this to happen. What are your thoughts?

In my opinion, I wish Nintendo lost so much money that they would have to become like Sega and only release games on other platforms and maybe release smaller consoles like the classic editions. The competing consoles and PC are not the best either, but Nintendo really doesn't deserve the success with all the stupid and anti-user things they are doing with the Switch.

Nintendo are just too proud and too fucking shitty to even consider selling their catalogue in a PC store of any sort.
I have always said that Nintendo piracy would drop down considerably if they simply make a Steam-like shop where you can legally purchase their old ROMs and use them in whatever emu you want, but since they're pieces of shit, they won't.

Sony it's hard to tell. At least all of their games are in CD/DVD/Blu Ray format, so they can be dumped and used in whatever emulator easily.

Sony kind of already is letting games come to PC. Horizon Zero Dawn and the David Cage games to name a few. Hell, there's an argument to be made that even third party franchises people may have speculated to have a "Sony-consoles-only" contract like Persona and Yakuza are coming to PC now, with the latter finally getting the PS3 games as well as the finale for the series' MC up to that point on PC. Persona 4 Golden coming to PC is interesting, but it remains to be seen how much of the SMT series catalogue will be coming to PC in the foreseeable future.

for that to happen we'd need people realizing how anticonsumer exclusives are, or for any of them to pull a sega, i'd love to see so, but good luck with that

The biggest problem doing that will be relevance, People always talk about why own an Xbox if all the games are on PC. It's like a Galaxy S21 why own a android phone that doesn't come with accessories or SD Slot I rather own an iPhone.

Sony and Nintendo excel with exclusives which is why their products sell so well if their exclusives became on other platforms they will lose relevance.

If nintendo let us buy legal copies of roms, I'll stop laughing at the virtual boy. :ninja:

(not a new thing, Sega practically sell mega drive game roms on steam from the sega classics collection.)

The reason I think Nintendo wont is as follows:
1) They’ll be scared they’ll be pirated
2) They want to make money from consoles, accessories, third party games and subscriptions, why sell Mario Kart 8 on PC when you can make people buy Switches, extra Joycons, etc?

That said, I do think they’re missing out by at least not selling ROMs of their older stuff elsewhere in a way similar to Sega’s MD/Gen on Steam. I doubt the Switch Online retro games are system/subscription sellers and it could help reduce piracy.

@Osakasan It matters not when we have emulators that can play all of these games in the first place and don't need to exploit hardware/software flaws to do so...

Maybe I'm stupid, but why? I can understand microsoft putting theirs on PC, since they own both xbox and windows. But Sony and Nintendo? Where their gaming is their main income? I know sony has done a few on PC, but it's not like they've put their biggest ones on PC.

@campbell0505 Hardware is not where the money is made. And PC is a huge market, much bigger than any single console. Some people might have a Switch, some people might have a Xboner/XSX, some people might have PS4 or PS5, but almost everyone has a PC. It wouldn't be a bad idea for Nintendo to release some of their games (at least the older ones) on PC. I don't see it happening though because they are so set in their ways and they don't listen to other people.

Nintendo are the only ones still trying to innovate. Every console had some sort of new feature, even if it was useless or underused. So let's hope they stay where they are, and never develop outside their own consoles.

However I do must note some games made it to PC. Just think of the pokemon trading card game.

I think Sony is doing great having put Horizon on the PC. I think if they take older games that might spur people into buying a PS5 for sequels, then it works to their benefit.

But Nintendo will never do it, because they’ll sell systems, multiple systems a person, because of their IPs.

@BeniBel they could always inovate through periferals, take the Wiimote for example, they could have sold them for use on pc, since it doesnt use any proprietary connection stuff

One word... Exclusivity. That's what Nintendo’s always been about and it's proved to be a solid business model since the 80s, why change it now?

The other 2 fan boys can hate it all they want but they all want Mario Kart on their crappy FPS systems :tpi:

personally it would be pretty cool to see but i would have a HARD time running it on my desktop. minecraft runs at least 15 fps, possibly 30 on a good day. seems to be worse on single player worlds or generated worlds

@Psionic Roshambo, people who cant download it can still play the game
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
If your internet speeds are fast enough. Streaming 4k takes alot. I used to only have 20mb sec, and 4k struggled. Now I have 300mb sec and 4k plays fine.

@BigOnYa, i only have like 1 or 2 mb sec

Did you feed the hamster in your internet router? It prob died and is running slow now.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, why did you start saying my pc has a hamster in the first place?

I think Game streaming should work like this.... Local Hardware able the run the game fine, game engine and common assets stored locally, all FMV and music and textures could be streaming

Or free government supplied high speed internet be nice also. Like Obama care. Xdqwerty that's cool, its time consuming but rewarding once done or playable, to see what you've made from scratch. Animations take forever, but worth it.

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    @BigOnYa,
and the visual aspect of the game is quite crude (the sprite that looks best is that of the protagonist just because he is a stickman with sunglasses)

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
There is a bullets behaviour you assign to your character, that makes the code easier, under "behaviours"
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
i meant that when the character is pointing to the right, the bullets spawn where they should, but when he is on the right, they move to the right but the spawn point is incorrect
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Itch.io has lots of free assets also. Under the bullets behavior tab, there is a "rotate bullets" option, can try that. Or in the code can try
    - fire bullet Player.X(PlayerDirection)

That's cool tho, I'm proud of you going back to it, not giving up. It is difficult at first to learn, but fun once you get the hang of it. I think I've watched every tutorial video there is, but I still struggle sometimes to get stuff to work right. But gotta keep trying dif things, and eventually you will get it right.
