I hate how TVs give you less features now instead of more

To be fair, I didn't buy the most expensive TV ever made. It is a $300 50 inch Vizio from Walmart. But in 2009, I bought a 42 inch Vizio from Walmart and it had 4 HDMI ports, a component slot and a composite slot. My new one gives me 3 HDMI ports, 0 components slots and 1 composite slot. So obviously the solution was "get a HDMI splitter" Well I have a total of 3 of them laying around now, and all of them give me no signal on my 2 PS4s and my Xbox 360. I've tried different cables, different slots, different splitters all with the same results. So I thought "maybe these cheap HDMI cords from Ebay are to blame" went and bought 3 new HDMI cables today, and it's the same exact thing. If i plug them directly into the TV they work, if I plug them into the splitter no signal. I just want my game systems all hooked up so I can play them. I realize I have more consoles than the average person, but I'm not the only person who needs more than 3 HDMI slots. It shouldn't be this difficult in 2020.

BTW another feature that was on my 2009 TV not on 2020 TV: Picture in Picture. To be honest this TV was $300 the one in 2009 was $700 so that's a big plus that they're cheaper. But they're also cutting corners. Is there still TVs out there giving you 4 HDMI slots, and component though? Even more expensive ones?

Get a decent splitter I guess?
My TV comes with 4 HDMI, but I have 6 devices connected.
To be honest I got a quite cheap splitter in Amazon and it works without a problem, completely automatic.

But anyway, some of what you say is true. I mean, my TV is $1500+ and it just has 4 HDMI, no composite or component at all, and no PIP as far as I know (ps: perhaps it has PIP, but I haven't even noticed)... I guess most people don't use those features anymore, that's why they remove them and make the designs simpler and more slim I guess.

What annoys me is that the cheap variant of my TV (the one my brother has) doesn't even have headphones output! (why?) and of course it does not have Bluetooth headphone support either, that's annoying. (for each user there are different relevant features I guess)

PS: Now that I research it seems my TV in fact has PIP somewhere, I just don't care to know how to use it.

Extra rant:

Also, talking about this obsession to make TVs slimmer and slimmer... I don't really like it.
It makes the TV too flimsy.

I mean, in the one hand perhaps you want an OLED because the image quality is great, but in the other hand it comes and it is just a thin stupid glass for a screen with no additional support and every time you try to move it around you need two people minimum and you need to be extra careful because the thin stupid glass wobbles around a lot and looks like it will break apart the moment you take a step to fast.

Why don't they just make things stronger and durable instead of "super slim and sexy", the hell... I just want the picture to look great and the TV to be strong/durable, but there's no option for both crystal clear OLED and strong/durable body (at least in LG). It annoys me. /rant

What's driving me nuts is my PS3 and my Laptop will connect with the same splitters no problems. But I've tried everything and can't connect my Xbox 360, PS3 and either of my PS4s to the same splitters. I don't mind buying a better splitter If I know it will work with these consoles, but I don't. There's a Nintendo Switch too and it was working before today.

Do you use Fosmon?

I actually have a Wii U, Switch and Laptop connected to one same splitter without any problem.
I wonder what makes the 360/PS3/PS4 combination fail.

Do you have a Fosmon splitter? I have 3 of these and none will work with the consoles mentioned.

I just got my 3rd one in the mail today thinking it would solve my problems because the other two were defective or so i thought, and this one isn't working either.

I want to think it's something with the specific consoles but if I plug the HDMI directly into the TV they work every time.

Ok I'm just about to buy this (the 4 port version) if it doesn't work I'm sending it back https://www.amazon.com/OREI-UltraHD-HDMI-Splitter-Port/dp/B07HR1WD4S/ref=sr_1_16?dchild=1&keywords=hdmi%2Bsplitter&qid=1600130681&sr=8-16&th=1

The cheap splitter I have is a "MROCIOA" brand bought in Amazon.
I don't have a PS3 or X360 around, so I can't check that combination.
I could try mixing around Wii U, Switch, PS4 Pro, XB1S and a laptop and see if it still works; but I know the splitter does not support 4K or HDR so I would need to reconfigure the PS4 Pro and XB1S.

Nah it's not necessary. I doubt you would have the same issue. It's not even a combination is the crazy part. I've tried everything even just plugging one hdmi cord into the splitter, and hooking up the splitter to the TV and it doesn't work. So it's not even about a combination, it just doesn't work period for those consoles, then unhook the splitter hook them up directly and they do work. But hopefully this one I just bought will solve my problems. If not I really don't know what to do.

@Sarkwalvein I actually cancelled my order I just made and ordered a mrocioa. It has 5 ports instead of 4 for less price and there's pretty good reviews.

@sarkwalvein yeah, i get not wanting crt levels of thickness, but after a while there is no benefit, my father had a tv that was like 8 cm thick, the new one is like 1 (not counting foot stands on either) the extra space is useless

This one works with PS4, as I used to use it. Also, PS4 requires at least a certain HDMI revision (1.4 I think?) and HDMI cables rarely mark the versioning number anywhere, especially cheaper ones.

An AV receiver handles it all perfectly, of course, but it's hard for me to buy into the idea that a panel in that price range is "designed" to be used with one. Even the lower-tier Pioneer AVR I'm currently using and bought on clearance cost more than that TV -- it's far from a cheap hobby

It's really strange because I've have 3 of these Fosmons which is this one https://www.amazon.com/Fosmon-HD8061-Automatic-Switching-Switcher/dp/B01D3JE0MS/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=fosmon+3+in+1&qid=1600136303&s=electronics&sr=1-2

I've had one of them for several years, and it worked pretty well for all my consoles except Xbox One which it would only work sometimes and one port gave me trouble the other ports worked and i had the 4 port tv so I was able to have everything hooked up. Then I bought another Fosmon and I slacked off on testing it until after the 30 day return period by the time I tested it I couldn't return it it seemed to not work very well at all. So probably dumb on my part I just bought a 3rd one, and I don't even know which one is which now because they all look identical I've been switching out but I have two PS4s one on 7.51 one on 6.72 and they used to work now neither work I tried all 3 Fosmons. It just seems to be random. But regardless I will never buy a Fosmon again.

Even laptops seem to give you 3 usb ports and at least on one I had used to have 4. I have a few of those usb 3.0 hubs but I sometimes have issues with them, especially when transfering files they're not that fast. I've been transferring this 1 TB and 500 GB hard drives i have for Xbox 360 to a 2 TB, and it's been 2 days. And occasionally my wireless mouse will get stuck for a second. Not great.

It seems to me anytime you have to use a hub or splitter the results might not be as good as the ports that are on the TV/Laptop which is disappointing. I even have another example I didn't have 5G on a previous laptop I had but my router was 5G so I tried several of those usb wireless adapters that are supposed to give you 5G. Another disappointment, kept disconnecting me randomly.

A USB hub supplies more ports, that's all. The throughput is still limited by the I/O of the port it's plugged into. If you're transporting files between USB drives plugged into a hub plugged into one port...well the port can only handle so much. Two USB ports next to each other are most likely on the same controller as well.

Hubs are better used in the case that you have a need to have a number of devices hooked up at once, not so much all being utilized to their fullest at once

PerfectB I understand perfectly that you are 100% correct, but I don't understand why we're in 2020 and still having these limitations. Usb should be just as good as internal, so should your hdmi switchs be just as good as hdmi ports on your TV. I could understand a slight drop in speed or TV quality maybe, but it should be no more than that. Admittedly though maybe it's my own fault for not paying more and buying quality hubs and switchs and maybe that's the only problem.

But I am sick of these China products that don't work. It's not racist to say that, because it's factual they are from China and factual they often times don't work.

In 2009 they needed to add more features to sell TV's, I believe 3D TV's was the gimmick during that time.

In 2020 they have OLED's, MicroLED's, QLED's and 8K TV's. They don't need to add a plethora of features to sell this technology.

It's all a marketing ploy plus did you happen to get a lower end line in 2020 versus your 2009 TV, example: Vizio has V, E, D, M and P series.

I bought a vizio during their clearance bankruptcy. They also jacked up the price to counter the clearance sale (Glad you gone asses)
And yeh I almost never use it. I was thining of a projector or a vr headset instead.. I know selling a tv ur never getting that money back,. I like that it has it's own tv channels, but all of it's plagued with adds and just kinda crappy.. 4k is actually 2k with up resolutions to emulate 4k. the vizo I had couldn't use a external hard drive above 2tb. everything had to be x264, hevc was too much for it. And it's ability to view videos was poorly done. I had to manually rewrite the dates of videos so it would line them up properly.. I did a quick fk this and slapped a hdmi into my computer and watched movies that way.. Tv's are a waste of money. 4k tv but 480p tv channels yikes lol

F
RiverMain I agree mostly about TVs. I don't think they're a waste of money, but I think it's a waste to buy a ridiculously expensive TV. But yet for $300 I'm mostly fine with this one, other than the lack of HDMI ports and component. I was reading on google that picture in picture is mostly a thing of the past.

Buy a cheap crappy TV and complain about how it doesn't have features more expensive TV's have...

I love my LG C9

I love my LGC9 too, but my complain regarding stupid thin fragile wobbling screen stands. Other than that, great TV.

PS: and it still doesn't have composite or component inputs, not that I care.
