Sony pushing for censorship on various Japanese games.

https://gematsu.com/2018/10/visual-...aystation-hindered-by-recent-sony-regulations
It’s stuff like this that makes me glad I didn’t buy into the PS4 meme, I was already tired of cinematic third person over-the-shoulder games by the end of the PS3’s life judging by what little of them I’ve played, don’t need a console where all its exclusives are that over and over again.
Now that they’re getting censor-happy, I really don’t regret my decision, this pretty much means that one of the PlayStation’s main appeals as being the platform to play niche Japanese games is pretty much gone since this is going to stomp all over small devs and publishers.
So, uh... What do you guys think of this whole situation?

lmao, first they make multiplayer paid, while still trying to advertise it as free, then there's the whole walled garden thing, then the cross play debacle, and now this

i still don't see why ps4 reigns supreme, i'll stick with my niche and preferring the xbox one simply because it has no exclusives to fuck with

With all the SJWs roaming around, Sony doesn't want their consoles to be associated with porn. They did the same when they announced that they wouldn't accept porn movies for their bluray discs when they just came out.

I don't see the problem here, mostly because Sony isn't forcing anything. It's their platform and they can request cuts as they please. The developers can just release it for PC if they REALLY want to keep the more hardcore stuff. Personally, what I find more unacceptable is that Sony requested the developers to write communications in English, meaning that there has to be someone in America or Europe in charge of SJWifiying the games, but still not enough professional to learn a language or even hire a translator.

the thing about these censorships that is with japnes egames sinces 80's (?) I don't is get is that they say it's to stuff be safe for kids... but if it isn't safe for kids why to translate them thinking to sell to kids?? translate and give for the public they are okay for...
"but for japan it's 15 yo, for US it would be 18" sell to 18yo them!
I think they are oversensitive over stuff they bring from outside but do worse when it's made on their soil, idk xp

Worth noting that probably it's because Sony lately moved their main offices from Japan to California, which is for reasons treated like the center of this SJW infestation. I can imagine that they started to hire whatever they found, some very bad people infiltrated them and now are they doing what they are doing.

Let's be honest - It's over for Sony. It's not the first company that was destroyed from the inside by these people and i don't remember any case of succesfuly fighting them back. It does not help that these japanese lewd games were like 90% of what made Sony floating in these harsh times...

Happily with Nintendo changind their image and Steam not bending their knee to this cancer, there's just enough to fill this hole-in-the-shape-of-busty-anime-girl. And seeing how both Nintendo and Steam are focused on making money and doing their own things, i don't see them turning backs on their actual customers.

The only way to escape censorship is with independent PC releases, which is a shame because not being able to release on Steam or Playstation discourages publishers.

You mean they're putting a stop to all the weeaboo anime jrpg/dating simulators? Finally, that's what killed the vita.

Dude, it was dead on arrival. Only sold about 4 million units in its highest year. That's absolute garbage numbers. The blame has been consistently placed on a poor game library and the over saturation over sexualized anime jrpg's.

If anything, homebrew gave it a little spark of life, and thats mainly because of adrenaline.

Well, people actually like those games. I'm not one of them, but the people who do like them shouldn't have their choice taken away because of Western over-sensitivity (to be fair Japan can be over-sensitive too, but about different subjects). Censorship is really strong here in the U.S. and it's because companies think that edgy content is going to destroy their brand image. Hint: stuff like Game of Thrones and those raunchy Netflix originals are wildly popular, you're only going to lose a small minority of uptight bible bashers with that kind of content.

But... Steam literally allows you to put pretty much anything on it now.

@Subtle Demise the issue with the vita is that there isnt a demand for these games in the west. Handheld gamers that like these games are a minority, yet the library is diluted with them.

I dont think censorship is a good thing either. But these games focus on perverts. Theyre sexualized for the sake of being sexualized. No gameplay to speak of. Hell, a lot of them are just novels. I think it's ok to put a stop to that. Especially when your platform is beginning to suffer for it.

I mean, look at the debate "omg, they want to censor our ability to jiggle anime titties". Who cares?

@Subtle Demise "Well, people actually like those games." I'd argue that it still overall killed the platform. If your platform is known for pseudo-loli/pseudo-rape whatever crap, then people *not* into it will possibly avoid the platform just to avoid the association. I didn't know Sony "banned" porn on bluray, but given porn is often an earlier adopter and pusher of tech I can see them wanting to delay the association--and Sony didn't really ban them, it just went out of its way to not be helpful.

Now, the counterargument is that without the sexy anime jrpg titles, Vita would have simply had no audience at all because without support of that niche people would have used something like smartphones to fulfill that niche. That's quite possible, but that argument to me simply says Vita was doomed to be a failure, and those titles only changed where the actual failure numbers were. Honestly, given how much of a sputtering start the 3DS had at the beginning and how well PSP did considering (Nintendo has had a lock on the handheld market for ages, so anything like their numbers is still impressive), I don't think Vita was doomed to failure.

Of course the real reason I wanted to rely to this blog? To say, "There's nothing sweeter than crushing the hopes and dreams of others under the banner of censorship." Given their meager budget, even horrible selling visual novels (and many 2D JRPGs) could turn a profit on horrible sales, and so they're very open to the notion of what counts as success (and making more). Censorship, especially after finishing production, is just crippling on future potential.

Edit - Complaint.. Editing turns the text into a unparagraphed big blob. :/

Don't worry about it, guys. Sony still has the best exclusives on the market, amirite?

Y'know? I get it.. Censoring something out of fear for backlash or just trying to keep the young pure... but, there's a line to be drawn with this...

Oh well. This literally has no effect on me as:

1. I don't own a PS4 anymore, and I have no intentions of purchasing another system.
2. These types of "games" I don't even play, nor do I care for.

Just keep pushing back against the giant and see if they trip over themselves... or make a pancake out of you.
