Expensive Games on Craigslist RANT

Ever try to buy used games on craigslist but the price is too high? why is it that people sell based on their experience playing it and not the value of the consoles worth? I dont get it. The more you play with a console the less its worth, its called mileage...

So I was looking for a Jtag X360 on craigslist and boom i found one within the minute for a reasonable price of $50, i musta been lucky because i looked at the other ads and i was surprised to find that people actually thought they could sell their old washed up consoles for more than $120, thats right for an old xbox360. the same goes for newer gen consoles too. So i scour craigslist for other consoles out of curiosity and again everything is overpriced, i dont get it. Im gonna go out on a limb and say that these are moms trying to sell the consoles because if they had compared their prices to that of a gamestop or a pawnshop they would realize their prices are higher and unrealistic LOL.

I myself have used craigslist to sell my old video games but i never looked at other sellers prices because i understand the actual worth and such. My experience is that ive never had to wait for than a few days to sell and they come to get it and i live way out in the boonies... I look at these ads and theyve been on there for months, which shouldnt it decrease the value?

Back to the mothers thing, Ive seen people try to sell their consoles at gamestop thinking they would actually gets lots for it and when the clerk tells them how much for all of it the mother would pout, get angry and storm out. I always laugh too because these people think their stuff is worth almost the same amount as when they purchased it, they go in with a smile thinking theyre going to get hundreds or dollars and when the clerk tells them their xbox360 and 20 games are worth $18.

One time i saw this kid and mom go in with their xbox360, (yes i always see someone trying to sell their xbox) and they had this very large box full of games, very heavy. They wanted to trade it in for the new ps4, keep in mind this is 2018. me, my sister and some random customers just stand and watch BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW its gonna be a disaster lol. Of course the final total was something like $40 and the woman makes an embarrassing scene and leaves, but i blame the fucking kid, he looked about 14yr but dumbfukk acting like he didnt know the xbox1 was already 5yrs old and the 360 old as he was.

but back to craigslist, i still dont know why people price things so high. the more they price things based on sentimental value the more you know that its worth less because theyve put too many miles into the console and therefore devaluing it immensely. I see many wiis being valyed at over $100 when those this go for $30-40 in better condition. I just dont get it.. And whenever i respond to an ad i always give a counter offer with reasoning but im always told im lowballing LOL. Example, i asked a guy if he was willing to sell his wiiu for $60 (console itself with pad) from $180 and was obviously denied. but i know thats a fair value because the console is dead and hes not gonna get anything near $180 for it ever.

Do you guys frequently encounter this? Do you guys even shop craigslist? What are your thoughts? Give me examples of how much you think consoles are worth and such. And if you havent tried, hop on the craigslist and poke around videogames consoles in your area to see what im talking about.

for real? you think $120 for a first gen xb360 w/o hdmi is a good deal when gamestop have them listed for $70 and where giving them away for free during the holidays?

$60 for a Wii U with gamepad is a fair price? Lol? Can't even get a good condition gamepad for $60...

@Memoir so i looked up the gamestop value and i was spot on. $60 trade-in or $48 cash

Gamestop trade in value is a joke for a reason. 120 is crazy for a 1st gen 360, but 60 for a wii u is fantastic.

$60 trade in compared to buying it 2nd hand. You can't value something based on trade in value. That just doesn't work.

@chary, exactly. wiiu is dead and anything over $60 isn't worth buying. but gamestop generally gives you 40% of what they sell it in order to earn a 20% profit

As for a Wii U? If I see one being sold at $60 I'd snatch it up... But that's a low ball price. Wouldn't be THAT guy. Id go no higher than $150 without games for the 32GB model.

it's when people do their homework
that it's hard to find a fair price on exploitable consoles i can imagine price gouging on a switch when the new revision is out full swing and first revs become rarer look for a 3.55/cfw ps3 you'll see what i mean

@memoir, pretend youve already had a wiiu but it broke, now your looking for another one. how much are you willing to pay for one knowing all you know in 2018 and that its a dead console?

@chrisrlink all ps3s are exploitable now, their value right now (to me) is around $80

People sell on CL for a reason. They either need the money OR they do it for a living/profit. I've gotten good deals (an n3DS XL limited edition for $200 + a ton of games). I refuse to sell my games to EBGames because of the ridiculous credit I get.

I don't need the cash immediately, so I price higher. Plus my stuff hasn't been beaten to hell by younger kids...

I sold my wiiu last month for 200€. Old 3ds xl for 120€ on a german craiglist alternative site. Well some people are willing to pay so much. I was little shocked myself. Almost like a free upgrade to a switch.

@gohan, did you sell them hacked or default? if default dont buy from gohan (lol jk)
@astrangeone,as a buyer/seller would you price your stuff or buy higher than what retail sells it for?(its all im saying)

$60 for a Wii U is pretty low. I'm seeing completed eBAY listings for Wii Us at $100-$120 with just gamepad and cords. I realize you're talking about in person transactions on Craigslist (They don't have to worry about eBAY fees (Lets say 10%. So $10.), shipping costs ($15 for a large USPS flat rate box give or take a dollar or two for packing supplies.), etc but they'd still make more than if they were to hand it over to you for $60.

$180 for just a console? They aren't getting that. $60 for a Wii U? You've gotta find someone desperate for that. $90~ would be a sweet spot.

I've never bought games or systems off Craigslist, no. Doesn't sound great. $60 does seem low for a Wii U now, but it probably won't be more than a year before that's the average price on a used one. Wii fell to $40ish very quickly at the end of its lifecycle, after all.

Cue in TV commercial.

"I once traded in a Demo Disc for full Non Demo disc prices at Gamestop!
Wow! Thanks Gamestop. You now forever have a user for your trade in system for my Demo's."

@SG854 , gamestop sometimes give really good deals.
@Xzi i think a lot of people get scammed too or are outright dumb. some probably dont know wiiu is dead or think its the new nintendo(nsw)

"because i understand the actual worth and such." " but i never looked at other sellers prices"
Clearly not.
Something is worth what someone else is willing to pay. Similarly people could and should be free for whatever price they like for their items. There is no set and enforced price.
"why is it that people sell based on their experience playing it"
It is a reasonable way of valuing things.

You are angry about nothing. Try just filtering such things out as so much noise.
