My disappointments with the Nintendo Switch, as a (ex) Nintendo fan

I owned all of the Gameboy line. I got a Nintendo DS day-one and a Nintendo 3DS as well, at a price point where the majority of Nintendo 3DS users have not spent. I also owned a Wii that allowed me to play both Wii and GC games. Just a premise.

I will happily skip the Game Boy and the Game Boy Color. Although they had their strong competition, they couldn't do anything to compare. I will also skip the Game Boy Advance because, even though I still think that selling an advanced console without any sort of backlight is criminal, they made multiple versions of a version with light.

The Nintendo DS is my favorite console I grew up with. A big complain I had were cheaters. They were EVERYWHERE and ruined any online game. Games like Metroid Hunters, with a very promising online play, were destroyed by cheaters. You could no longer have fun unless you went into some random forums and play with people you were trusting not to use cheats. Another big complain I have was the console's incompatibility with WPA-protected routers. You had to buy a DSi and play DSi-enchanted games to finally play with WPA. Whatever, I still loved the console.

Then the 3DS was announced and we were promised a lot of things. There was a HUGE list of games that were supposed to come out during the first year and we were also promised graphics much better than the PSP, other than a great 3D experience. These were the problems:

- Console was 249.99 euros
- We were told to buy it now while the price is as it is because it would have gone up
- When the console came out, there were no good games. Just those placehold games to keep yourself busy while waiting for something big to come up
- No eShop
- No internet browser
- We STILL have friend codes to deal with??
- The only game worth waiting for in 2011 was Starfox 3D. A remake of a not-so-successful game
- The 3D effect is great, but you could only see it clearly if you didn't move an inch
- No second analog
- Hardware problems, like the bottom screen hitting the upper one, damaging the screen
- Cameras were trash
- No video playback
- No GBA virtual console

If it weren't for the backwards compatibility with DS games, I would have never supported this console this early. Eventually the games showed up and I started loving it again.
But then the Wii U came out and Nintendo wanted to cripple the console to push people into buying more Wii U. Example? The 3DS version of Mario Maker is a joke.

Regardless of these problems, I've always played and supported Nintendo games and was really looking forward to the Switch. These are my problems with it:

- FRIEND CODES AGAIN???
- Still the hardware damaging itself
- Still the lack of games at launch and nothing in the following months
- No voice chat unless you use a complicated way to
- Awful internal storage
- Expensive
- No internet browser (lol)
- No touchscreen (my mistake, it has it. You can stop writing OMG THE TOUCHSCREEN IS THERE!!11 I SHOWED HIM LOL)
- A highly controversial online pay service even though Nintendo is famous for not giving a damn about online play

I'm sorry, but I stopped supporting new Nintendo consoles. They just can't keep with times. They are making toys, that's it. The only reason for me to buy a Switch would be if they announce a new PMD game. In the meantime, I will wait for the obligatory Nintendo New Switch in two years.

if you consider that the prices are fucking more expensive than your country and people here are more poor than you well, i guess you're thinking wrong

@BlueFox gui what he is trying to say is that @dpad_5678 was using the prices here in the U.S. He didn't know the difference in cost in from your country. He wasn't saying that the price difference doesn't matter, he was trying to explain @dpad_5678's thought process

I'll settle this debate once and for all.
  • Nintendo is for kids and people who can't get over their nostalgia from when Nintendo was still good.
  • Sony is for rich kids and weaboos
  • XBONE is for cah-oh-doody frat boys. Some spill-over into PS4 for this one too probably.
  • Android is for filthy casuals.
  • Apple is for hipsters and people who like to throw away money.
  • PC gets all of the above, but is also the most intellectually stimulating of all platforms. Plus the productivity features are second to none. :)

Mate, the launch price in your locale may suck.. But I'm sure there's more than Nintendo setting the price. Do some research on your country's trade laws. I'm betting there's some fees and barriers involved with getting the system there.

@Subtle Demise I just like Big N. Other than that your post is fairly accurate. Most people just can't afford $2,000 for a decent gaming computer

@Subtle Demise Windows is not a suitable replacement for any OS. Put a desktop version of Windows 10 on an Android device or game console. That would be fucking miserable.

Sorry, don't know much about PC gaming. I stick to consoles because I like to think of my PC as a development platform

PC is an entirely different beast to consoles. the reason people pick console's over PC is simple, the loss of hassle.
Users don't have to worry about compatibility with their specs or have to make sure they're running the latest drivers. In the end, it's just more simple.

I've got my gaming PC for most games and Switch for Nintendo exclusives.

That being said, I do kind of miss the ease of use of the Xbox One.
But the graphical capabilities make up for it. ^_^

Exactly the same as me. I play all my third party games (excluding a few that are better on a more portable machine) on my 4k60 capable PC and my switch for indie titles and switch exclusives that really work on the system.

I mean, I have the 3DS because I liked a few games going for it (probably I'd say around ~25?) and it wasn't badly priced when I bought it (a year or two after initial release) so y'know, I went for it. Again, DS was bought at a good price; I collected a lot of games for it and it was worth it, however Switch I wouldn't even consider until either the prices went down or more games were released.
Don't get me wrong, I like some of Nintendo's consoles, but I wouldn't stretch it to fan.

Early Access is a bitch ain't it? But anyhow

Early Access console = Don't expect much when there's a few titles at launch, and they're online is delayed until next year. Nintendo is following the lane of very Friendly based concerning to their online service (idk about voice chat though, that's a whole different ballgame) Also if your wondering about the internal storage, that's probably because it's REALLY intended for the OS (Can't forget saves and screenshots) and they already decided how they're going to utilize all that space in the near future so that's understandable. It's not really a flaw if you understand how they're going with the system, the only thing I'm worried about is the Micro SD cards (I want more than 256gb lol).

Okay, so you buy consoles not to play fun games but because of their feature set? Sure in that case the switch is not the best choose.

Also just a personal note, no browser is an issue? When did you ever use the browser on any console? I'm willing to bet it was only a few times, and in all those cases you could probably just as well have used your phone.

G
@MRJPGames he stated the answer to that earlier.

He uses his 3ds browser to play videos while he is playing on his phone. We all do though, don't we? /s

Given that the switch could do this as well considering its web browser is actually just hidden, and there is no app to launch it.

@Vipera current thoughts on this blog? Just want to know if it is still just a bunch of fanboys.

I cant justify $1k+ on a nice ass phone. I can spend that on a 75" tv screen. Why a 6" screen device cost me the same? lol

Tbf there are decent $400 smartphones in today's market that make top end spec phones unjust it's just what you want
