How i got myself into 'anime'

I used to be one of those guys which used to post 'Anime is shit' and 'Anime is for furry faggots' type of comments.
But after some time I though... 'Is anime really that bad? I never tried it, so I'm not 100% allowed to hate it.'

Summer, 2016.
After browsing endless Steam Community posts about how anime is shit, I decided to try and see if it's really that bad like other's say. Also my PC broke in Summer so I was left with my tablet which stopped working after some time.

I created a post in Off-topic. A post which would suggest me anime because I want to 'give it a shot'. My Steam Profile was something like this but it had Kashima there instead of Hifumi.
Obviously, some posts were useless shitposts like 'Cory in the house', 'boku no pico' etc. other recommended me Ecchi and finally some normal people which gave me real recommendation.

One of these recommendations were: Cowboy bepop, Nichijou, K-on! etc. etc.
If you haven't guessed by now, I went with Nichijou since he said it's a great anime for 'beginners' to anime.
Alright, i researched if he didn't recommend me hentai. Nope.
'Where do I watch it?' - me trying to find where to watch it. That's where I spammed my friend on Steam. He recommended me a streaming site.
Cool beans, let's get right into it. First episode, second, third and... last episode! I never laughed so hard in my life and kudos to him for recommending me this masterpiece.
Nichijou was my first anime and I don't regret watching it. It stayed in my memory and I still remember it's ending.

Then I went with Angel Beats! Well... 'Comedy' tag doesn't apply here. It's depressing as hell but It's my second favorite anime. Why? It played strong role on my feels. I never cried while watching your typical 'The Walking Dead' or random romance/drama films. Yes, I cried waterfall at the end and I'm not scared to admit it.

Third one: Ecchi about a zombie boy which can change into magical fairy [Which made me cringe] (Kore wa zombie desu ka?)
Fourth one was K-on! Another anime I abolutely love!

And... that's basically how I got into anime. I used to hate it but now I absolutely love to watch it when I'm sad.
Question to you: What was your first anime you watched? Mine personally was Pokemon but I don't count it.
Answer it in comment section down below!

plasturion first 3 episodes are boring, then action kicks in.

(PS: Can't say much against plasturion anyway, because I also tried to watch Angel Beats, and I died... of boredom... but same thing happened to me with Clannad... I see a pattern here)

First Anime was probably Speed Racer.

I don't really watch Anime besides a few but I did like Steins Gate a lot. Surprised to find out that John Titor was a real thing that happened after I watched the show. Though he was a fake time traveler.

@SG854, yeah, that played into the whole chuunibyou concept of the game/anime. Everyone and her cat in there went around with tinfoil hats, and effectively it mixed reality with fiction adding this John Titor conspiracy into it, very much like chuunibyou food.

@sarkwalvein It did get a little too nerdy for me, with Crt's, and the whole 3d 2d girls, the anime cat ear wearing restaurant, and having social awkward characters.

Even though i'm into nerd things myself, and I know all about these things, I actually own a crt pvm for old school games that I got for free, it was just a bit too much on the nerd for me.

The time travel aspect, diverging time lines was cool though, it was really well done. Definitely one of the better time travel shows.

The first one I watched was Spirited Away, I think it was about 7 years ago. I probably watched Pokemon or something before that, but I never got into it.

I need to improve my grammar somehow. I know, it's terrible, many times i mix english grammar with my native language habits, so i guess it can be wrong, or has different meaning. It's time to rise my skill up, but how to... watching subtitled movies is not enough, I guess.

@plasturion I've found that the best way to improve fluency is to talk with people that speak the language (e.g. apply for an Erasmus to the UK if you are still in college), and to improve grammar the best is reading books mostly, many books, and writing reports or whatever (again covered with an Erasmus). Subtitles are not enough really.

Yes talking to people is the best way to learn the language. You learn the informal conversational way of talking, most people don't speak proper English, like you see in proper books.

Theres some old school Anime like Astro Boy and Battle of the Planets my mom use to watch.

Some of the BotP characters made it into Tatsunoko vs Capcom, a pretty cool fighting game.

Oh, 3x3 Eyes, the good times of Megumi Hayashibara. In the end for me it was such a missed opportunity, the first set of OVAs were great, the second set of OVAs were so so, but still that got me into the manga, and after 40 Volumes it all turned up so meeeh.

Well, I can speak English fluently but people still can't understand me due to my accent getting in my way so...

Nope, Polish is my homeland language.
So I use Polish everyday. :P

I've noticed I am myself very inefficient in this task of "switching the language chip" to call it somehow. So, I am speaking Spanish and turn to English and it sounds weird for a while until I get it going, but the weirdest is when I am talking German and tired, and switch back to Spanish and I start talking with Spanish words but German grammar, it ends up being either funny or embarrassing.

@plasturion your English really isn't that bad. You should hear me try to speak any other language.
