Life isn't fair

My wife turned 24 this past Sunday. She was born with a condition called PKU. Basically she can't eat protein. We had her yearly checkup on Wednesday. They do a bunch of tests and take blood. After we got home, the blood doctor told us to go to the ER. my wife's blood sugar was over 500. She is now diagnosed with diabetes.

She's 24... why...

That's very unfortunate, sorry to hear that.

Anyone in their 20's or even earlier and already diagnosed with A, B or C are truly very unlucky. I don't know if I have any similar symptoms similar to those as I've not done a test in years and honestly, even though I'm not ready to punch my ticket yet I'd rather just eat and do what I'm used to than being limited for the rest of my life.

Death is part of life and not necessarily scared of it, just how.

man, im really sorry about your wife, yea you're right life isn't fair, but do what you need to do to take care of her, be the best and be happy
life is a constant suffering but you need to fight sometimes, aah dude i hope you get better

That blows man, carbs contain alot of sugars so i guess that makes life more difficult if she cant eat much of that now along with proteins.

Life will always backstab you.
It does that to everyone.
Sorry to hear that and i hope that she gets well soon.

My condolences to you and your wife, my dad has Diabetes too, and if I don't take care, I may fall on it too... So, I kinda understand your situation. :(

Well, she got her sugar levels down to the safe zone in three days. We had to manually adjust her dose even though we know the doctor won't like it. But I can't help it, she was waking up with her sugar being in the low 80s. She is working full steam ahead to create her own diet and cookbooks. She spends hours looking for no carb alternatives and I think she is taking this very seriously. Thank you all for the support. :bortz:

Great to hear it man!

You know what's bad of this situation? Not being able to eat whatever you want. Restrict your diet... I couldn't take that hahahaha. Now being serious, (I was being serious tbh, I love to eat... food is a pleasure and a joy., isn't it?) I hope everything goes normal and you or her won't get anything else.

im here.

And yes, life will never be fair.

I only ever really loved one person in my entire life, a kid named Adrián.

He had a severe heart disease that, due to shortage of blood, made his skin gray.

All the other kids treated him like a street dog. They beat him to see if he even had blood in him. I mean, when I was attacked I could defend my ass, but that poor kid couldnt.

So I stood up for him and fought back.

I broke a kids nose, left a kid blind for a few minutes after punching him in the face, almost choked a kid with a rotting apple; And I can't ever say I regret it.

We promised each other that I would become a medic, he'd become a videogame producer, i'd heal him, we'd both make cash, live well, and then make a foundation.
He died in April 30, 2014. So yeah, now I gotta do all that by myself.

Also, my mom got breast cancer and I didn't want to let her know I cried a lot. And school got terrible that time too. The one thing that kept me away from suicide is the thought that if i did, my mom would follow me down. And I didnt want that. Adrian wouldnt want that either. He'd want me to live thinking without regrets and being thankful that things arent worse.

So yeah, live without regrets, cause things could ALWAYS be worse! :)

@BORTZ Its good that she's taking this seriously. Almost everything at the supermarket is packed with sugars, Alcohol is basically soda with a buzz. Research you products well, food labels can be misleading. Corporations divide sugars so that they won't appear in the top 3 most used ingredients, so people won't think lots of sugars are being used in their foods. Sucrose, high fructose corn syrup, brown sugar, dextrose, and many other sugars are names they use.

Any food with less than 0.5 trans fatty acids, food labels are allowed using a loophole to claim 0, claiming trans fat free, which can be misleading.

Gourmet Home Stye cooking? Ha, thats a joke especially if it comes in a can. Cherry flavored drink? Most likely contains no cherries.

It always seems that good people get thrown more shitty events in their way than bad people do. It's been that way for as long as I can remember. Even longer, I'm sure. If the universe/nature could be changed to attack the horrible people and leave the good ones alone, the world would be a much better place.

My cousin has a diabetes for 18 years and he is doing fine.

My other friend have a diabetes for about 20 years. He struggled with it because he didn't followed his diet very well.

My cousin always followed the diet and that's why his lifestyle is easy and management very very well like health person. :) Make sure she follows everything so she will be ok. :)

Life is bullshit. Like @Sonic Angel Knight I was diagnosed with both ADHD and Aspergers' Syndrome. I actually was anemic back when I was 5, but this is absolutely not the case now. I'm 16. And actually I'll graduate from high school at the end of this year.

Just encourage her mate, she shouldn't feel bad about it, nowadays too many people suffer from diabetes early in life.

On the bright side, genetic engineering is becoming more advanced. Maybe someday your wife will be able to return to her normal life. I'm so sorry. Remember GBATemp will always be here to cheer you up.

That Dell data breach is worse than people probably realize....
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
When I worked for Dell we had access to data about military contracts and addresses for high ranking people.

I personally handled a call from the second highest person at Raytheon. That call bothered me a lot... The guy was nice and smart what bothered me was the way management basically just blew him off instead of going the extra mile to help him.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
In the end that call ended up costing Dell millions in lost contracts with Raytheon, and really the issue could have been solved for like 450 bucks lol

sometimes I wonder why anyone would ever buy mega man x legacy collection 2
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
I always thought that capcom shuffled the games in these collection, but apparently they are all in chronological order, which makes legacy collection 2 worthless
