The same can be said with people going to a mechanic for a quick and easy issue they could fix by just topping up their water, unfortunately "the guide" brings people into the scene who have zero knowledge of anything, and don't give 2 craps as to how or why the 3ds works.......so when a problem crops up, it's either,
a) spend hours reading up on tons of crap that may or may not help them
B) make nooby posts that don't actually give people the full storey leading to 10 days of back and forth trying to figure out the issue, sure sometimes it's something simple like "update luma" etc, sometimes it's something stupidly silly like them Having reformatted their sd to expat but never mentioning that snippet of info
C) restore your nand and start fresh and don't repeat whatever it was you did last time

@dAVID_ - You may consider that to be hilarious, but I've helped actual users who had those type of 'noob questions'. Those people aren't Help Vampires. They usually have a less than stellar grasp on the English language, meaning that holding their hand while they execute the steps will help them a lot more instead of forcing them to figure it out on their own.

A better example of a Help Vampire was hacksns (also known to me personally as '#gbatempcancer'). He consistently complained in threads about NDS injection and refused to back down after being told that shit doesn't work that way and he should just let actual devs discuss it. He also wrote various noob questions that anyone with half a brain cell could realize were just fucking dumb (like not even your jokey question dumbness, I'm talking about questions like "What if we had D-Pads for eyes" dumb). I'm not sure what happened to him eventually. I did ignore him at one point and when I checked him out again he was banned. Sort of a shame, eventually he got kinda funny in his own special little way, but I guess the mods got tired of him.

So the thing is, restoring the NAND is basically the least harmful thing for someone to do. It's not the best form of troubleshooting, but it's the least damaging form. In most cases they do end up coming out just fine and all is well, even if 90% of the problems can be solved without it.
It's not as bad as the time when people used to think removing A9LH would fix all of their problems and every other thread was "HOW DO I REMOVE A9LH?!?" and most of the time their problem was they forgot to put the "arm9loaderhax.bin" into the root of their SD card. So there is are worse form of troubleshooting that someone can do.
Still, the truth be told this was bound to happen. Regardless of how anyone feels about it, the easier hacking the 3DS became the more people got involved. And the more people getting involved, the more you are going to see troubleshooting in the dark. Which honestly restoring the NAND is still the least harmful form of troubleshooting, even if it isn't the best form.
Now the best way to handle this isn't really complaining about it, but to help them and point them in the right direction. Not everyone who comes here is going to know what they are doing and or not every newbie isn't willing to learn. We should instead encourage research instead of discouraging newbies from trying.

Actually I think the OP actually was the one who censored the title. GBATemp does not censor swears unless it's overly excessive.
So for example if my title was like
"Why the fuck people so dumb?" no one gives a fuck.
But if my title was something like, "Fuckin'- What the fuckin'. Fuck. Who the fuck fucked this fucking... How did you two fucking fucks... Fuck!"
The staff will give a fuck and remove that title or at least cut it down to match the topic on hand.

It's pretty gross that people can take concepts like higher accessibility and ease of use and attempt to turn them into negative points because "the bar for entry has been lowered too much". As if the homebrew scene should have progressed to the point where it was accessible to you, and then just stopped there.

The funny thing is, I'm sure the developers behind the exploits and software required to make this level of homebrew more accessible to everyone could say the same about people on your level of understanding. Not that they would, of course.

I don't care who sets up homebrew, I'm simply stating that instead of forcing people to go through 10 pages of troubleshooting (half of which are people giving completely pointless advice) sometimes it's in their interest to just cut their loses and start fresh rather than them having to learn the ins and outs of what all the files on the 3ds are for and spending hours troubleshooting

@_Chaz_ Just because you can doesn't mean you should.
I guess that goes more toward the end user than the devs. But I don't think the clueless end user knows that. Maybe the devs should stop at a certain point. Like how bartenders are supposed to stop giving drinks to drunken customers.

I'm not sure what the solution would be other than a really simple setup that even the most clueless noob could do. Maybe scan this QR code or visit this page on your 3DS and it's hacked.
