Getting a cellphone finally...

Hrm. Decided to finally buy a damn phone.

I really don't need one all that much, but in this day and age it's just... necessary to own one. Plus it isn't THAT expensive.

Since i'm going through Koodo, due to them being like the only provider in Canada to NOT do 3 year contracts, my choice of phones is kinda limited unless I wanted to buy a phone myself and just set it up with koodo instead, but that's an expensive pain in the ass.

So I settled on getting a Samsung Galaxy Ace. Reviews are middle of the road for it, but meh. My sister has it and I don't mind it when I messed around with it. It's the best android phone Koodo offers.
For something I wont use much, it should do fine.

I'm actually kinda excited to get it, but I suppose I just always enjoy getting new things. if i'm lucky i'll have it by friday.

Cool. First thing you should do is root your phone, if it's available, then install Cyanogen Mod 7, if it's available. Just saying, it'll probably wipe most of the problems the phone had off the face of this earth.

Yep, Cyanogen Mod 7 is arguably the best ROM for any phone out there. If you need any help feel free to ask, I'm relatively savvy when it comes to Android :P

Will do, since i'm relatively...completely useless with phones, lol. Luckily I usually catch on quick with technology related stuff.

It's fairly easy to learn, so I don't think you should have any problems. I mean, you are an independent dentist after all.

I disagree. The best ROM for my HTC Inspire was hands down MIUI.

It's really a matter of a opinion though. The only reason I changed back from it is because the HTC Sense camera app is much better than any alternative. (Believe me, I tried all of them. Some came close but had issues.)

I remember being on a family plan when I was 14, but never had anyone to talk to.
Now, I have this $15 prepaid Samsung thing I only use in case of emergencies.

I have had prepaids for a while. When I get a job im just gonna save up and get an iPhone 5 when it comes out with a 2 year contract. Sick of prepaids.

It really depends on how popular the phone is and how much development it goes through. For instance, MIUI was crap for the HTC Evo for a number of months/year while CM was definitely the best. MIUI is really lacking nowadays for most phones I'm afraid.

Oh, and don't listen to prowler as he has no idea what he's talking about like usual.

If the Galaxy Ace has it, you should give AOKP a try. there's tons of useful customizations that you can change to your liking.

And since you're new to this rooting and custom ROMs- xda-developers.com is a great forum with useful stickies and the place to find all the ROMs you want.

@TehSkull I'm not the only one that thinks that MIUI is a significant battery drainer?
