So the game was on sale for the PS3 Gamers' Choice Awards and I figured "Eh, what the hell." I generally like Assassin's Creed so I might as well give this controversial entry a try.
I don't see what's wrong with it. I'm basically just at Connor's main part (he just got the full assassin get-up) now and the game has been fine. Like I don't see what so many people are complaining about. Maybe the real issues will crop up now but it plays fine, has good missions, and I even like Connor as a character.
I mean it has the typical Asscreed issues, don't get me wrong. Such as Dull Desmond yanking you from this awesome adventure of the past to hear him cry about daddy issues. Or the big thing that bugs me is that it's a small story stretching into a large frame. Don't get me wrong, small stories are not bad. I love a small story if it's done well. Here, the small story is that Connor seeks revenge for his tribe and doesn't want people taking their lands. It's a revenge plot reminiscent of Asscreed II but I enjoyed how it chronicles his life a bit more. You play as him as a kid, a teenager, and an adult.
Also John deLancie as Desmond's father, I can't get over it. Like he may have been a few jigawatts short of a Doc Brown in Quantum Conundrum but he gave a crap. He sounded super whimsical which was the point. Here it just sounds kinda lazy. Hell most of the VOs sound lazy but I think the VO work in Asscreed has always been somewhat unremarkable.
So yeah, I'm enjoying it so far. Don't see what the big fuss is about.
