1st time emulating a other system than DS

Well i was at home wondering can i emulate a n64 game on a netbook at full speed so i did my lil googling found the best emulator stumble across some of my fav n64 games an some new ones (I love perfect dark an never got to finish orcale of time) anyways i check the faq for the emulator (project64 best emulator i seen in action) my netbook met the requirements (any computer could meet the requirements :) sound graphics etc . . . it ran at 50 fps i was shocked like wow didn kno what to expect but happy with the results ;)

Ps. N64 roms are so small !! when i was lil these games always had alot of stuuff to do (content) would of never expected such a small Mb .

Shocker . D:

You can emulate pretty much and system up to that generation. Also PS1 games are massive compared to N64.

If i try i believe i can get a pcx2 emulation of to at least 15fsp if i switch to a Sw TnL who know's.

on a EEEpc 1000HA I got ps2 emu to run at 47 fps under linux(ubuntu for eee) and ps1 at 54 stable by using a lower res(ps default) in fullscreen, however in wodnow mode it halts at 28~31 for ps1 and 22~27 for ps2. Tested ff7, ffx , suikoden 1 and suikoden tactics. With Rogue galaxy it was 17 fps in full screen so it varies by game but its cool under linux i can get n64/snes/gba/ds/ps1 to run decently on that small netbook and some of the ps 2 rpgs and pasive games(games with to much on screen lag)

So your supposedly saying that rpgs work better on low end Pcs (like netbooks) that other genres like fighting an shooting games.

it seems that way I tried MK Armageddon and it was no show unplayable at best, while suikoden 5 abeit slow it as playable (not enough to claim it runs decently but you can get tru a battle or 2) I didnt test a shooter per se(FPS) but I tried Deadly alliance and Xmen legends 2 and they are to slow to play, they boot tho. Im running 2gigs of ram on the netbook and the videocard is a ATI Radeon HD 3450 (256 ram non shared) I had a 904ha before with an intel card and ps1 was in the 30 frames stable and ps2 was unbearable so i guess an ati card even if low spec does a world of difference for these emulators. Also if you wana play lots of emu's on it and feel like its a wii try the ASUS eeesticks(seen them for sale on ebay for cheap) that come with some gamer republic laptops they are the bomb:P and yeah 5 of my 6 pc's are ASUS built or ASUS parts in full:P

He's saying that depends of the game and that in his Linux the emulators runs better. Probably because windows has many process running at the backgrond.

A question damedus. How can you run PS2 at 47 fps and PS1 at 54 fps??? With my pc, I have troubles running PS1 slow, but I can't get more than 12~15 fps with PS2... any suggestions?

im using http://www.epsxe.com/ for ps1 and iso images on the hd i noticed real disks on the cd rom gave me some slowdown and audio issues. i use recommended settings per game from googling gamename +epsxe settings.

If your internet speeds are fast enough. Streaming 4k takes alot. I used to only have 20mb sec, and 4k struggled. Now I have 300mb sec and 4k plays fine.

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, i only have like 1 or 2 mb sec
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Did you feed the hamster in your internet router? It prob died and is running slow now.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, why did you start saying my pc has a hamster in the first place?

I think Game streaming should work like this.... Local Hardware able the run the game fine, game engine and common assets stored locally, all FMV and music and textures could be streaming

also @BigOnYa im making some progress on my gdevelop project, implemented various mechanics

They went all in on streaming, should have been more of a hybrid approach

Or free government supplied high speed internet be nice also. Like Obama care. Xdqwerty that's cool, its time consuming but rewarding once done or playable, to see what you've made from scratch. Animations take forever, but worth it.

    @BigOnYa,
and the visual aspect of the game is quite crude (the sprite that looks best is that of the protagonist just because he is a stickman with sunglasses)

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
There is a bullets behaviour you assign to your character, that makes the code easier, under "behaviours"
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
i meant that when the character is pointing to the right, the bullets spawn where they should, but when he is on the right, they move to the right but the spawn point is incorrect
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Itch.io has lots of free assets also. Under the bullets behavior tab, there is a "rotate bullets" option, can try that. Or in the code can try
    - fire bullet Player.X(PlayerDirection)

That's cool tho, I'm proud of you going back to it, not giving up. It is difficult at first to learn, but fun once you get the hang of it. I think I've watched every tutorial video there is, but I still struggle sometimes to get stuff to work right. But gotta keep trying dif things, and eventually you will get it right.
