Hello
I noticed a problem with the recently added post merging system
https://gbatemp.net/threads/test.108982/page-78#post-9922215
I wanted to test it the other day and it did that
It merged my post with my previous one, but with a post i made months ago (see the original posting date and the edit date)

It means it didn't bump the thread, meaning it could become problematic in some cases
For example, a user wants to solve a problem with a homebrew, he creates a thread, solve the problem, and the user says "Cool works, thanks you"
Then, right after, another problem occurs, the user will post back in the thread, but it wont bump it and no one will get notified, right?
The thread also wont show any new post, so it won't be bolded in the thread list, right?
So, no one will notice that the user still needs help, he will have to create another thread.

Maybe put the merging system you had before? like one or two years ago?
It merged the posts only if they were posted by the same user within 15 minutes

Thanks :)

I second this. another problem is the mention system of which I'm not sure if someone will be notified if it's a merged post

Yep.
Was going to report this, but I think it's intended?

At first, and not gonna lie, thought that if I reported it it woudln't be noticed as I tend to double post carelessly.
Still bugs me that old posts merges together even if they're months apart.

The notification system in general is hit or miss, like now Jayro replied to a post i made and i wasn't notified, i just stumbled upon his reply while scrolling the page..
And without mentioning that there's no notification system whatsoever in the blog section..

what's really odd is that one of the threads I double posted in, the previous post was about 15 days old, and it counted it as a new post. however, everything else, regardless of age has done the merge thing. it doesn't make any sense. :-/

Agree!
Seems like it's an anti-spam measure.
Again, I was going to report this a week ago, but as I tend to double post carelessly, I thought that it would've gone unseen my Admins/Supers/Mods.

There was a configuration issue initially when we reenabled the auto merge. But we've tweaked it so posts should only merge within 24 hours of each other since a recent change.

I've also turned off the notification for merges. Seems a bit unnecessary.
