the entire hacking project is being produced by 1 person. with a little bit of help from the community who have mostly debugged problems and provided some sprites. it was a learning project for him and unexpectedly turned into something much larger. he is not a coder and thus he can not do any asm code, which is probably what would be needed to fix the battle engine. please understand that it isn't like the game was already there, that he changed 1 or 2 character sprites, and now he wants someone to re-code the entire thing for him. as for the game itself, he hasn't left in one single original bit of content. everything from the overworld map, to the characters, to the english translation, to the buildings have been changed to match the ps1 classic. he has spent time matching shapes, sizes, colors, etc. He already has a year into this project. i am not trying to belittle you or any coder when i say that after reading 35 pages of posts it is clear that what he has done to hack this 1 game would outweigh the few weeks it would take an accomplished asm hacker to rework/balance the fighting engine. the game code runs just fine on any emu that supports the pirate mapper. i'm not sure if you are familiar with Shenzhen Nanjing but they have produced some pretty amazing games. the flaws always reside in their assumptions towards how gamers will react to the final product. the ff vii battle engine works but has balance issues, doesn't support all mana, etc. i do not recall all of the the problems, they were buried within the 35 pages of posts at romhacking.net. basically it doesn't perform like the ps1 engine and there were enough issues for the guy hacking the rom to seek out a coder for help. -another world
Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan
- you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.
The issue is DRM

:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
