Hi. :)
I allow myself to make a 'whispered' proposal, hoping not to be intrusive and not to be 'mauled' for my impudence. :blush:
It would not be possible to add a simple custom autoplaying-bgm (a single file, maybe a simple midi, even a few seconds long) that would play when clicking on a user's avatar or when reading their profile? :teach:
Personally I consider it an original gimmick, which would add a touch of creativity and a fun incentive to know tastes and characteristics of other users.
Thanks for your attention and patience. :D

This would 100% be in the "Absolutely NOT" pile of suggestions, not only would it be incredibly annoying (even if it were opt-in) but the resources required to do that would be more than we'd be willing to use (space-wise mostly, given the limits we have on Avatar/Signature images). Besides, policing that would be so annoying. What's stopping someone from posting little racist tidbits as their "Profile audio" or little sound bites of porn or something like that.

Nor is it "original" given that Myspace had profile songs in like the early 2000s :P

Thank you for your prompt reply and your attention.
If I may be allowed to argue, I understand very well the problem of limited resources and the point of possible annoyance; but I don't understand how a single, simple, short midi file (and I repeat, allowing only the use of .mid format!) could transmit racist or porn content!?! :unsure:

Very simple, the sound bit would say a slur, or a moan, nuff said. You can easily convert between audio formats

Well he mentioned either an audio file or midis, and if it were just midis those aren't actual sound files they're just like...digital note sheets that would play XYZ instrument of whatever software is "running" the midi. You can't like...take an MP3 and convert it to a midi file that will play words, it'd just be a garbled mess.

But while that might not be as abusable, I'm sure someone would still do something annoying like making a bunch of really high pitched notes or something to annoy anyone that has it enabled.

I try to make a last attempt, trusting in your patience/endurance, by specifying my idea more: please don't dislike me. :(

I said that you could only allow a simple (ONLY ONE) MIDI file per user, perhaps of limited duration (100kb would be more than enough) containing a jingle (in fact only these can be created in .mid format, a limited combination of musical instruments) with anime/cartoon/videogame/movie themes etc (many of these, dating back to the nineties, are easily available online and explicitly freeware).

It is absolutely NOT technically possible to convert human voices/shouts/mockery to MIDI, as one of you rightly pointed out; the only possible abuse would be the use of strident/shrill/ cacophonous sounds: in this, I think absurd and remote occurrence, it would be enough to give the possibility to deactivate the midi by clicking on it. ;)

I ask forgiveness for my poor and broken english and i hope to have convinced some of you to rethink about it and to consider, calmly, my proposal. :)

Thanks again.

I'm gonna try to defend this idea a bit by saying that these absolutely can be moderated—the moderating ‘issue’ is the same as with profile banners and avatars. If you find something offensive, just report it. No need to limit them to MIDIs.
But then again, like I said, since Chromium blocks auto-playing audio, this idea is infeasible for 60%< of users.

:) Thanks for the support, but I still prefer MIDI files only, for the following reasons:

a) They take up very little space, usually under 100kb (useful for the limited resources of the site) and are anyway of good quality, catchy, pleasant, engaging etc;

b) They cannot be abused, i.e. they cannot transmit offensive/racist/porn content etc. as I have already explained ('better safe than sorry');

c) For the Chromium/autoplaying issue, it would be enough to be able to activate/deactivate the melody with a simple click on the file (it is not absolutely essential that they are activated automatically). ;)
