So, as you know overwatch servers are shutting down on oct 2nd. Do you think anyone will be able to make a unofficial community replacement? I dont have high hopes as the security for blizzard games are pretty tough and is mostly online orientated.

I won't say it's impossible, but we have a couple of things to consider here. In the case of WoW, a lot of its assets, even server code, was leaked outright, letting anyone take a crack at it if they wish. Hell I've even hosted my own server. Overwatch is different, you'd need to get stuff to carry progression and matchmaking at a minimum, could maybe reverse engineer that to do private lobby shit sort of like some old games do with GameRanger, but if that's the route they do, kiss matchmaking and balance goodbye.

Secondly, loot boxes and the like. Assuming all skins aren't all unlocked from the start (which you'll probably need back end emulation to do as well) you'd need to manage all that shit as well.

All of this being done entirely from scratch, without any idea of how the back servers work. This isn't even getting into any infighting that may occur if different people have different ideas on what is most important to preserve or how to do it.

Which brings me to the most sobering, hardest pill to swallow of all of this: Overwatch 2 will come out 48 hours after the servers are gone, and the game is free to play. This is going to deter 99% of people who would be interested in preserving Overwatch 1 and the legal teams at Blizzard will deter half of the remaining 1%, with the rest operating from foreign countries that don't give a fuck about authoritarian piece of shit laws like DMCA.

In conclusion:
Possible? Yes.
Expected whatsoever? Not at all.

    If your internet speeds are fast enough. Streaming 4k takes alot. I used to only have 20mb sec, and 4k struggled. Now I have 300mb sec and 4k plays fine.

    I think Game streaming should work like this.... Local Hardware able the run the game fine, game engine and common assets stored locally, all FMV and music and textures could be streaming

    Or free government supplied high speed internet be nice also. Like Obama care. Xdqwerty that's cool, its time consuming but rewarding once done or playable, to see what you've made from scratch. Animations take forever, but worth it.

    @BigOnYa,
    and the visual aspect of the game is quite crude (the sprite that looks best is that of the protagonist just because he is a stickman with sunglasses)

    There is a bullets behaviour you assign to your character, that makes the code easier, under "behaviours"
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    i meant that when the character is pointing to the right, the bullets spawn where they should, but when he is on the right, they move to the right but the spawn point is incorrect
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
    Itch.io has lots of free assets also. Under the bullets behavior tab, there is a "rotate bullets" option, can try that. Or in the code can try
    - fire bullet Player.X(PlayerDirection)

    That's cool tho, I'm proud of you going back to it, not giving up. It is difficult at first to learn, but fun once you get the hang of it. I think I've watched every tutorial video there is, but I still struggle sometimes to get stuff to work right. But gotta keep trying dif things, and eventually you will get it right.
