Comment by 'DS1' in 'SaGa Frontier remastered is one amazing experience'

I played this (SaGa Frontier) for the first time a few months ago, and now I kind of wished I waited for the remaster. It’s definitely a great game and I heard the remaster makes it considerably less obtuse (though that was part of the charm back in the day, I suppose).

    Status Update 4

Hello again cool cats. As always, hoping for a swift end to the pandemic. With any luck, I’ll only have to do one more of these! Densha de Go!! Hashirou Yamanote-Sen: So I played so much of this that I got completely burnt out on it. It’s still awesome, but I have scrubbed the content top to...

    Status Update 3

Shortly after buying Marvel VS Capcom: Infinite, my d-pad busted (not the first time, the Dual Shock 4 is garbage), and I didn't have any replacement parts on hand, so I swapped the contact pad out for the DS3 one (does not fit properly, but allows the rest of the control to function without...

Comment by 'DS1' in 'Status Update 2 (more mini reviews)'

I have played Yakuza 1, 2, 4 and 6 now. I thought 6 was fine, I’m not too obsessive with games and stories, I just want a little fun, which they all are. And I have the money to buy the most expensive computer possible, but it’s not a good investment since I wouldn’t have much time to use it...

Status Update 2 (more mini reviews)

This virus needs to end, it has ruined people’s lives and taken away something that makes people happy from everyone. That being said, more video games :/ Yakuza 6: I originally wanted this just to play the final (although maybe not based on recent news) Virtua Fighter game, but enjoyed the...

    Status Update (feat. mini-reviews!)

The virus is terrible, it needs to end now, destruction of society is imminent. I did get to play some games though, despite working about 13 hours every day and working out the rest of the time: Trials of Mana: -Great for nostalgia -Gets too easy towards the end, stakes don’t feel as high as...

    Damned Virus

Haven’t had time for games in years due to work. Spent what little free time I had hanging out with friends and traveling for friends’ weddings and parties and stuff. Saved so much money I can literally do anything I want now, live anywhere I want (have a job where I can be 100% remote all the...

Comment by 'DS1' in 'Swing swing swing and chop chop chop'

I think there's value in the opinions of people who play the games professionally, or who have their ear to the professional world. In any case, most people have come around and really like the game now. It's very entertaining to watch. I never play online, but I hear the online is just as bad...

Swing swing swing and chop chop chop

I had to work through the weekend, but grabbed the Samurai Shodown demo to play in downtime. It was very frustrating both because of the input lag and the nature of the game - seemingly simple and slow. Determined to learn the game and not be a scrub, I kept at it, and eventually learned the...

Wow, Spike Spiegel? Never noticed that until now... 99% of the narration (intro to every stage) is done by one of the other characters.

Comment by 'DS1' in 'The Good Stuff'

It didn't help that Namco had previously released Death by Degrees, an action game which featured Tekken characters, but little else of value. See if you can find some high-level Urban Reign videos on youtube, they definitely show the game in a good light.

    The Good Stuff

Back in 2005, Namco released a game called Urban Reign, which was something like a streets-of-rage style brawler-meets a watered down version of Tekken. To put it in a better light, the game used all of the resources from Tekken 5 (animations, textures, etc.) to make a more technical brawler...

    More complaining about Online games

-Gundam VS released without a 2-player local co-op mode (something which has been in every other title in the series except for the Dreamcast port of the arcade game). -Online is dead within a month of release. -The game drops about $5 retail every month since release, one of the quickest...

    I wouldn't have bought a PS4 if I didn't have to.

note: I apologize for any typos, I wrote this all on my Kindle tablet with its awful autocorrect OK, obviously I didn't have to buy a PS4, but the situation was like this - I'd had a PS3 for about 6 years, and has collected (digitally!) nearly every fighter for the system. Good collection of...

    Game Of The Year

Etrian Oddysey V. OK, granted it came out in 2016, but I hadn't played it until now (I'm sure the same holds true for many for Persona 5 - the game is ancient history for me, but for some people it's their GOTY). I hate dungeon crawlers. They're abusive, obnoxious, boring, etc. etc. While EOV...

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.

I like that games can be fixed after the fact, hate that it's being abused via beta tests... And DLC... I was a 7800 owner back in the day and loved Impossible Mission, turns out I couldn't beat it because it was actually impossible lol
