Its like FF burned down the homes and villages of 60% of this site and tattoo'd square enix on all their arms while laughing manically among the flames
Final Fantasy is like a rollercoaster - either the games are spectacularly good or incredibly bad. I like most of the classic ones, but the latest installments leave a lot to be desired.
Mainly because early Final Fantasy games are just good RPG's for the time. They let you do some of the core elements of a good RPG - they allow you to design a character and they throw you into a world filled with quests and a vague main objective. You're actually role-playing.
In comparison, contemporary Final Fantasy games introduce you to a bunch of whiney assholes whom you wouldn't want to be in your worst nightmares and forces you to experience their boring story by means of walking through an uninspired hallway. You're not role-playing - you're watching a movie with some interactive portions to it.
That's more or less the gist of it and it applies to a great majority of contemporary JRPG's. They focus too much on telling the story of the whiney protagonist instead of, y'know, letting you be the protagonist as an RPG should.
I really didn't like playing online against other people always felt like I was being matched against children... Sorry it's your 7th birthday but I guess I'm supposed to mow you down anyway...
I have reflexes a cat would be jealous of and a near psychic ability to read people, makes online play feel incredibly unfair. Ironically I have been booted from online servers for being a bot.... Or aim assist lol
