Hey guys, I remember loads of these threads in the 3ds sections back in the day and was curious if things are still the same

Obviously I will need a micro sd card for my Switch, looking through my draw all I have spare is a Sandisk 32gb Class 4

I appreciate Class 4 is old and slower but do you think it would be fast enough for the Switch ??

I don't really want to invest in a new faster one but will if you guys think it's necessary

Class 10 SD/micro-SD Cards are relatively cheap nowadays, especially that there is the faster memory card classification, UHS-3. You would not go wrong in ditching your old storage medium for a faster one.

If you can, go for UHS-1. This one is more efficient than the Class 10 storage cards.

Does anybody own either of these 3 cards ?? One is a Sandisk and the other a Samsung, not much difference in the cost but I cannot find a decisive review to say which is better

OR

You should go with the Samsung. I've had tons of problems with Sandisk, never with Samsung. If you want to go a step further, grab the PRO type card that uses MLC NAND instead of TLC NAND that the EVO and Sandisk cards use.

<sarcasm> Oh NOES! I have to wait an extra 1-3 seconds to load shit from a cart! </sarcasm>

Sorry for digging up an old thread but I was going to ask a similar question. However for me it's more loading things onto and off of the SD card, since my reader runs at USB 3.0. The real question is can the switch write to faster cards faster or is the switch the bottleneck like it was on the 3DS?

As far as I know I can only recommend the new latest A1 standard as its design specially to be used as internal storage on android, its also meant to last longer for heavy huge, data cashing and all that stuff which will be a lot needed for Emunand.

I was just looking at all these new-fangled ratings too, and the first explanation I found from google supports the idea that A1 would be helpful for Switch (doesn't say anything about increased longevity, but speed optimised for random read/writes rather than recording huge video files is indeed what we need). I also learned that the V30 rating I've seen on some listings isn't relevant for the same reason.

Well, then good for me that just bought a cheap 200GB A1 rated microsd card a week ago, and didn't really have a clue what meant that weird "A1" logo on it... I guess I have the idiot's luck.

I've just noticed that Samsung don't seem to be using the A1 rating yet, which is a shame as they'd be my brand of choice (doesn't necessarily mean they won't be as good, I guess it just means reading the detailed specs more carefully). I've got on well with Sandisk cards before apart from with one device which didn't like them.
