There is a lot of buzz around backwards compatibility but no, not that many people actually care. Backwards compatibility did nothing for Xbox One and it didn't put even the slightest bump in the PS4s momentum. I don't think Nintendo is any different.

Because Xbox ad only Xbox 1...backward ...Nintendo got a lot of content ...they just can't throw it like that!

Nintendo dropped support for GB/GBC with the DS and GBA micro
Nintendo dropped support for the GC with Wii U.
Nintendo never had support between the NES, SNES, N64, and GC.
There's no reason to hold onto old systems when they are trying to progress forward. The best they do now is VC, but considering how poorly the Wii U sold, why should they support it?

Why would the NS be DOA without BC? Like, seriously?

Backwards compatibility is AT MOST a nice little feature to have and nothing more. They're doing the right choice by cutting it out, instead of staying with crappy old processors, they need to move forward completely.

Never before had Nintendo produced a new handheld that didn't support the previous generation but this is not a handheld, this is a tablet with the exception of the VirtualBoy... success story /s

idk, probably we'll see a thing or two on eshop via virtual console, but I couldn't care less for backwards compatibility
They must move forward and so do we

Also, we can always keep the older consoles to play the older games

Be careful. Use too much sarcasm then people wouldn't be able to tell when you are being serious. :P

While I agree on the most part, bringing up sales is a weird one as if you never bought a wii u and wanted to buy switch and Nintendo told you, you could play wii u games would you buy those wii u games? yes. Meaning the end result is more money. But since this machine is ARM, backwards compatibility is only really possible with the DS line.

3DS isnt out of the question, wii u is. 3DS titles will probably be downloaded and played as well as being upscaled so they dont look horrendous.

I bring up the sales because it begs the question to why support backwards compatibility for a system that so few bought? If they didn't want it new, then why want it now? At that's how Nintendo will see it.

Becuase they saw how poorly it sold and now that they see they can get wii u and switch why not? But yeah it was a good idea to keep costs low.

That's not how businesses work. If something didn't work before, it's not worth trying to make it work. The Wii U failed, thus they no reason to keep supporting it in backwards compatibility.
Unless they can find some way to fix what caused it to fail, they aren't going to keep supporting something that isn't making them money.

But this is on a console basis, people didn't buy the Wiiu because it was a failure but they might want to play the games, so the allow for backwards compatibility to make some money back.

People already voted with their wallets and said they didn't want a Wii U, so why should Nintendo think "You know what people really want out of our new console? The Wii U!"

The wiiu plus more. People wanted to play these games but didnt want to buy the console just look, many key wii u titles are being ported to the 3ds just to make some money back.

That's not how businesses work. They aren't going to invest money into something if it's already been proven to fail. There is no reason to invest money into something when it's already shown to not bring money in.
If customers wanted Wii U support for the Switch, they should have supported the Wii U to begin with.
