Right now I'm using RxTools for my Old3DS. I decided to drop my Gateway since I hate flash cards, and I also went ahead and converted all of my games to CIAs, so I'm set ;) The way I see it, CFW has pretty muchly made Gateway obsolete... at least for Old3DS

Gateway is CFW, all it does is load 3DS files.

In that case I'm all set then, the gateway CFW I use loads .3DS roms, which allows me to play 3DS games and run the homebrew launcher and other stuff like emunand and out of regoin games. What more could I want. It even comes with a handy DRM device with extra storage. I'm not saying it's better but it's what I use and it works fine. Each cfw has it's strengths and weaknesses.

i actually asked cause i am afraid to mess my almost perfect n3ds now, i am able to play all the games i have installed on my emunand.

will the games really work on Reinand? and my curiousity would be to ,if there will be really no need for oot anymore on my n3ds is that possible with the reinand ?
i guarantee that reinand is better and pretty easy to install on n3ds. just do the tutorial i linked you, it will take around 10-20 mins and works exactly as gateway, but no red card need.
If you have gateway emunand set up, just need to copy reinand files to sd, install mset and rop and bluecardfix and everything works great. also make the exploit stuck so you can use ds flashcards and don't lose the exploit

imo, having a 3ds that launches cfw through sysettings, games on cia, and even play ds games without doing anything else is close to perfect.

I agree, but to me it is better to not have the need for a gw card (that I can sell or might break or you might lose) rendering your 3ds cfw unusable, until you buy another.

Its hard to follow the development of all the different CFW out there. Just wondering if there is any reason to give one a shot if I already have Gateway running on my N3DS ofw 9.2 running emunand.

It's a matter of opinion.

If you already own a Gateway, imo, no. Especially with the implementation of NTR 3.0.cia which can be used alongside gateways Emunand.

If you didn't already have a Gateway, then you could argue yes. That's if you didn't want to shell out for the flashcart solely for the reason of using .3ds files instead of having to install them as cia.

@Runehasa

I'm using Reinand right now and it works flawlessly for new3DS

CIAs are much better since they are HALF the size of .3DS you can fit a lot more in one microSD
around 60 Games on a 64GB card

CIAs look really nice installed on your home menu

CIAS let you go online without any problem since they don't have headers

CIAS are easy to update using other CIA packages, CIAception

Gateways are CHEAP and can break at any time, they also cost 70-80$!

CIAs are only as large as the games code requires, you can have the same effect with a .3ds if you trim the rom (which takes literally 2 seconds)

Same goes for roms.

Matter of opinion; I think the build quality is pretty good. Price is definitely the main factor in deciding.

:)

Even then I think is not worth it. I had a 3DS cartrige on my hand and a GW on my other hand. The GW is so flimsy that I'm glad I never got one. Imagine paying 80$ having everything set up and then it breaks? You have to pay 80$ again?? Noway. I had R4s
and they weren't reliable either, they would only last a couple of months, but those only costed 20$ back in the day.

I think the real advantage of .3ds is not having to install them, installing CIAs takes a long time. If
GW costed 20$-40$ I would definitely get it but 80$ for something so cheap it's a ripoff

Pasta CFW requires you to drag 3 files over to the SD card :glare:

But does it load 3DS roms? (Rhetorical question because I'm pretty sure it doesn't) That the only reason I still have my GW. It's not difficult to install CIAs on CFW but I prefer loading games off my GW's mSD.
EDIT: And I bought a 64GB mSD and wouldn't want all that extra storage to go to waste.

I knew where this thread was going before i even clicked on the title. Oh, you gbatemp!

Seems as though the cool thing to do on the internet these days is to hate ANY product that costs REAL money to enable hacks/piracy, regardless of innovative features and convenience etc.

Anyone here old enough to remember the SNES, N64 and GameBoy scenes? (The latter, i was born too late) all those were hardware-driven scenes; LikSang.com and Bung Enterprises were knights in shining armour. Even the SuperCard team gets love in the DS scene.

Too many people left with emotional baggage after the Gateway bricking fiasco, i think.

I'm going to go on a limb here, but looking at your sig and comment you're coming off as a Gateway fanboy.
People are free to use whatever they want, let them make their own decisions. The info I provided is my own
experience with GW, if OP wants to buy one or not, he needs to understand there are two sides
to the coin.

Your post doesn't contribute anything to this thread.

trimming takes seconds, I have a 64GB card and managed to get 129 games and still have a few GB's to spare

Matter of preference but I would rather not have a hundred+ icons on my home menu, and I can quickly get to "X" game because of ABC order in the multirom menu

Yup, you will need a private header as far as .3ds files are concerned but once you get one you can patch all the games that need to go online pretty quickly

I'm not sure what you mean by easy to update using other cia packages, the same features should be in gw emunand as far as that goes

I've had mine for a year and half now (got it for $56 back then) and its been fine, it doesnt feel cheap, not sure where you are getting that from

and I would rather not spend 1 hour installing a single large game cia when I can just copy .3ds files in a few seconds and be with it, I deal with cia's with update's and dlc and its not very pleasant and thats only the small size stuff

CIAs take around 10mins per 1GB I don't know where you got 1 hour from but then again I have a new 3DS. I think
the wait is worth it, you can also install them all at once and leave it overnight.

What do you mean 100 Icons? I use folders, English / Japanese / Undub / eShop and Tools. I think having them all on your
home menu is much easier to find, I mean common, tell me this doesn't look ballin' XD

Gbatemp rule number one: When another users opinion doesn't align with your own, label them a fan boy! "Guaranteed argument winner"

You keep mentioning GBA temp, like everyone else is the problem and not you

you're right your not a fanboy, you're just a moron with the word 'Gateway' 5 times on their every post

imho, the current CFWs still have some issues to cover before I officially switch to them from GW.

The main one for my case is the inability to run the dlc of other regions unless the emunand is changed to that of another region or run in succession with NTR CFW's language plugin.

Yea, what I do is I try to find the DLC for that region because switching emunand's region for a DLC that's not even one MB big,
seems like a waste of time. I have found most DLCs in the regions I needed but I can see how it can be a hassle for some people.
Installing them doesn't require any additional plugin if you just use the correct region for the game.

$80 FOR THE ENTIRE 3DS LIBRARY + HOMEBREW SUPPORT IS TOO MUCH.
Don't forget, everyone would still be crying about not being able to play 7.x encrypted games/emunand

Oh, I guess you weren't here for that
, or even USE FREE CFW on 4.5+ systems if it wasn't for Gateway. It might be an $80 DRM cart, but liking a dev's post and saying "Now I can play mah pokemanz" doesn't get anything accomplished in the long run.

Dude, I'm only giving the guy some info on the option to use CIAs, why do you have to be a dick about it?
Sorry but your ad hominem about my join date doesn't prove anything I said to be wrong. You're just using
an appeal to emotion fallacy to criticize me for not buying a Gateway, you do see the Irony considering every game you
play is also pirated?

Congrats?
I don't see how this has anything to do with the thread, GW has had their fair share of fuck ups too,
I really don't care to keep arguing with you, I don't even know what you're on about? You seem to be angry
because I don't use a GW and prefer CIAs? Why do you even care what I use? Enjoy your GW I will
enjoy my CIAs

Have a nice day
