Looking into NAND XORing in order to manually inject DevMenu is the way to go. Also, there's some simple sources of Launcher.dat SD filemanager in Hombrew thread, may be useful for figuring how to access NAND directly using 3ds hardware.

Gateway will never do that because it will make their flashcard useless.

Maybe not. For example, I've seen it argued that finding the new KeyX would be easier to do on your own than trying to reverse Gateways latest launcher for all the layers of obfuscation it's buried under.

I'm not saying it won't yet so I'm waiting to see

Gateway needs to be updated & most people have two 3DS so who's to say it won't work[/quote]
Because all new 3ds will be on the 8.x/9.x firmware and GW isn't working on exploits they wait for people to find exploits then they use the found exploits for the launcher.dat

just a guess here but what if everything resides before even putting the launcher.dat
in the big sd, what i mean by that is if the GW Installer.nds has the bars on the signatures and stuff
so maybe looking into that seeing as there is alot of nds debuggin stuff around, see what gets installed and how
then maybe find out how to reproduce the launcer.dat with signature checks .. shot in the dark really

Your comment reminded me to this: http://gbatemp.net/threads/wiiu-hack-what-if-the-gamepad-is-the-castle.372069/

The nds installer installs part of the exploit, but the laucher.dat does all of the heavy lifting. I think there's even a blurb or two about it on the 3dbrew wiki...

ah, that was not a good guess. always the pretty ones

It's not necessary since one of the devmenu.cia has 0 key encryption. ;)

Also, you can just read/write to NAND using FS functions. No need to generate an xorpad unless you need to decrypt emunand. :P

I think people are doing i by decrypting the nand. If you can read through the obfuscation in launcher.dat it should tell you how to decrypt the nand i guess.

how would you be able to tell the restrictions?
if there is that tool maybe extracting the elf out of new launcher and compare with old
see changes and what not? maybe..
you can tell the restrictions simply with ctrtool. the hardes part then is to find a legit app wit the same restrictions and signature. But even if you manages that it still won't work as the program doesn't start. (for example: I made an exact copy of my system settings app, with the right permissions and restrictions, but i get an gamecard removed error when starting from gateway)

The only thing different this time around is that New Nintendo 3DS/XL owners only have micro sd cards to work with the New 3DS/XL doesn't use the big SD cards anymore
