Hello,

Im trying to help out a friend who has a htc inspire 4g phone. The phone is originally at&t and he would like to use t-mobile on it. Is there any possible way i can root the device and use my t-mobile sim card on it? If so how?

Thanks.

Changing the carrier your phone uses will require an alteration to the firmware for the radio in most cases (the part of the phone that communicates with the cell towers). This requires the bootloader to be unlocked to allow you to rewrite the firmware on the radio among other low level stuff. Simply rooting your phone only changes the Android OS and isn't enough to do what you want. Sorry.

If the phone is out of contract, take it back to the company and just ask for them to unlock. Usually they're very leniant regarding things such as this when the contract is all said and done.
