Retro handheld manufacturer Anbernic is releasing a refreshed model of its RG35XX handheld line. This new model, named RG35XX 2024 Edition, features the same quad-core H700 chip that their RG35XX Plus packs but it does not have Bluetooth or WiFi support. It starts at $50 on the official AliExpress product page and has more colour variants.

I already own the original RG35XX and before this announcement, I bought both the R36S and RG35XX H handhelds last week since they were on sale on AliExpress only for there to be another update to the RG35XX. I swear Anbernic is milking every last drop out of this sh*t, lmao 😅😆😂.

The Retroid Pocket Pro 4 is the way to go atm for a cheap retro system it handles ps2 very well many switch games working at full speed too i finished prince of persia the lost crown using Yuzu ..it was flawless in fps ... ..& all older systems of course work great especially Gamecube ...

So it's exactly the same, except without wireless connectivity of any kind.
...What's the point? It's like the bloody Wii Mini or 2DS; stripping out features for no reason, making it a wholly inferior product.

Huh, right when I just bought a r36s...:rofl2:

Actually don't regret buying it. It was cheap and it seems anbernic is still not doing proper metal-dome ("clicky") buttons, which is the one feature I really miss on all these consoles...

I feel like they should emulate GBA design instead… that 4 shoulder button side by side doesn’t seem comfortable
I don't use Anbernic handhelds myself, but the side by side shoulder buttons are something I enjoy with the KT-R1. They definitely fall short in games that actually require the use of all four buttons, but that's basically just PS1 with this? For the vast majority of systems, I just use the outer ones for controller inputs and have the inner ones act as hotkeys for other things since they're difficult to hit accidentally. Again on the KT I use the left inner shoulder button as a screen swap in Drastic and Citra, and the right one to create a quick save state.

If you're getting a system where you'll be mainly playing PS1, PS2, or maybe GamePass streaming, I do agree that stacked shoulder buttons are the way to go.

Anberbnic is their own best friend, and their own worse enemy. They're offering cool products, but at the same time they're flooding the market with so many models that they're competing against themselves.

Just offer 2 or 3 models at different price-points with different features and emulator capabilities, and do a refresh every couple of years. Sheesh.

Wake me up if they ever release an FPGA device.

I bought one recently, but after a while I ended up figuring out that the Razer Kishin worked better for my lifestyle. No regrets.
