You can already do that. I did try to my local media server interface. The issue, however, is the Wii U basic web browser. It doesn't support a lot of modern web features.

Don't expect being able to "update" the official Minecraft port pretty easily. There's no source for it obviously, and only a port of the newer Minecraft is to be considered... which is unlikely to be made.

Don't follow videos. They are just piece of medias that can't be updated and often, aren't even deleted or edited if anything changes.

It's only in the case you have to manually put the path, so actually with "sd:/" in front. Try instead to just select the files already set on your 3DS SD card from the app, or drag and drop them. It will automatically detect the path if you have actually mounted the SD card.
