Softmodding with a 64gb SDXC micro sd card

Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well.

I just want to know if I can use a "Kingston SDCS2 Canvas Select Plus 64GB SDXC" with SD adapter to softmod the Wii and then use it to play games from it, both Wii and Gamecube. I know that I need a program like rufus or usb formatter to format these cards to fat32 because Windows won't directly allow it.

I have heard that the SD's tends to fail, I have no plans of removing and adding games that frequently, and I can't use and external HDD right now so I'm really between micro sd with SD adapter, SD through USB adapter or just an USB Flash drive, I can use a 16gb sd and a 64gb usb stick If that is better than just using a 64gb SD card for everything.

It should work fine. If your starting firmware is under 4.0 u won't be able to use an sdhc or sdxc card with bannerbomb or most other sd based exploits (I'm not sure about smash stack), but u can use str2hax which works without sd (only requires wifi on the wii). Or u can update to 4.3, but official online update I think don't work anymore, but u could update using a disk. Official online/disk based exploits carry some risk of 003 bricking if the wii was originally Korean and poorly region changed, many people with this consoles buy them used and never know their console was originally Korean, so check your serial number to confirm before doing an official update.

Or, the best solution is to use modmii (modmii.github.io), just follow its main wizard, it can update u to 4.3 (optional) and simultaneously help u softmod your wii, just use the str2hax option when you get to the exploit step of your guide

Edit: the bluebomb exploit should also work, but it currently requires a Linux PC with bluetooth

@XFlak Interesting, you are a serious help.

Then if the firmware is under 4.0 I can still use a normal SD (512mb-2gb) which I must have somewhere.
The console probably has 4.3 as it comes with Cod black ops disc, the seller mentioned that the disc is not working well, but he played it before and claimed to be the first and last owner, so I guess it must be updated already.

I will definitely check the serial numbers, the console its supposed to be European, already used the ModMii wizard to download the files, which I'll download again when I have the console ready. Thank you very much.

Yes u can use a standard SD if firmware is lower than 4.0

To be clear though, after softmodding it, homebrew apps will still be able to use sdhc and sdxc any ANY firmware, it's just the system menu itself that will be limited to SD only if firmware is under 4.0

Edit: and if using modmii it's safe to update regardless of what the serial number says, so no need to check unless you're just curious

Yes, impeccable, already checked with the owner and its a 4.3U, the back of the wii Says RVL-001 (USA) and its a black model,
